For those of us with no electronics skills, could you guys make and sell us a version of this relay?
 
Pretty cool that this thread found new light. I never have had any issue with the controller since I built it and never went further. I'm interested to see what you make.
Just a quick clarification... the pnp transistors are older audio-types. my guess is they would cross with most generic pnp types such as the 3906...?
 
I might be interested in this too. At this point, my relay is fine. But it would be good to have a backup. Mine is an CDN spec HJ60, 24V.
I used 12v relays although the 24 might work... not sure. I could take a look at the relay specs to see if they could handle the volts.
 
The trasnsistors are the same you would find in an old radio. I'm not sure about the transistor part # 3906 you quoated I'd need to do some research, I'm no electronics expert by any means. For the relays depending on the quality of the manufacturing the coil part is the problem with interchanging the 12 volt and 24 volt relays. Some 24 volt relays may close at 13 to 14 volts you get from the electrical system but if you put a 12 volt relay in a 24 volt system you will break the coil after a few seconds.

Sure! It might be a few weeks... my truck is the school I teach at, which is closed down until next week. Covid sucks on SO many levels.

Makes sense for sure. No doubt there are relays available with the same footprint but diff volts. I have a feeling the transistors I'm using will work. I think there is an off-chance one of them is NPN, using your numbers as a guide, but they are easy to swap in.
 
I am in no hurry but it's good to know you can help. I am looking forward to this. Will definitely purchase. Will even put down a deposit if needed.
