did some research on the Edgestars portables. I was favorably impressed by just about all the user reviews I read.
So got one to try. 63 qts.
doing some tests. Looking good so far.
Preliminary lookover suggests that they copied / got inspiration from the National Luna, which would be a good thing.
I bought on for $519 shipped over the 4th of July weekend...waiting to get my drawer built, Warfield... then will be trying it out...look like a good deal so far...cooled real quick in my house..
I got the 43qt edgestar and cant wait to use it this week...but
I pluged it in the house to get it cold first, then tested it over night in the family suburban and woke up with a dead battery and a warm refrigerator.
Anyone have one, and use it with a one battery set up?? The 'burban battery was a duralast around five years old maybe I need a fresher battery??

Running overnight shouldn't keep you from starting. Then again, the Edgestar is supposed to shut down when voltage drops below a certain level?
My guess is you need a new battery. After working in a truck garage for a few years, I became a real believer in replacing ANY battery (and don't start with a crappy one) after 4 years. Otherwise, it'll let you down.
well, my big 63L one will definitely last more than one night on a charged battery.
And yes, it should stop drawing power at a voltage that still leaves you enough to start the engine, if the wiring to fridge length is appropriate.
Likely the battery.
I've run my 43 quart Edgestar for 3 days straight, didn't charge the battery even once that whole time. The engine fired right up without the battery/starter even sounding tired. This is with a Deka Intimidator (from Carquest) AGM yellowtop.
thanks for the replies, very good news. A fridge that cant run over night wouldn't be much use. I thought I might have wasted my money. I'll replace the battery.
I bought a little Innova (IIRC) voltmeter that plugs into the cig lighter. Very convenient to keep track of both battery and alternator. Figured I'd rather avoid a surprise in the middle of nowhere. (I also carry a spare start up battery pack, of course.)
It was about $15 at Walmart. Less on Amazon. Recommended.
I also got a desulfator charger that supposedly will recondition sulfated batteries. Seems to work.
Purchased this fridge About 3 months ago and like it so far. The dc plug crapped out shortly after purchase, however edgestar replaced very quickly! Good price comparatively to other fridges on the market. Price fits my budget.
I have the 43 qt version and did test this summer during a black powder club camp out and shoot, so there were other people around in case I had a start problem. It ran uncharged from Friday late afternoon to Sunday late morning. I saw the low power light come on but let it sit as is to see what would happen. When we were leaving the engine turned over slowly and stopped. My little jump start pack got me going. I have no idea how old the battery is since it was in the rig when I bought it 3 years ago. Don't know if it would have started with a newer battery or not. I guess my point is I would not put too much trust in the low voltage shut off.

How are everyones Edgestars holding up?? I was bear hunting last week and it was acting a little funky.
The first day out it was givving me an HH message on the readout. I couldn't find anything about that in the owners manual.
On the evening of the third day I opened the back of the truck and the fridge was at 48 degrees. It was set at 38 and had not been left open or anything.
Not sure why it was acting up. It worked great on its maiden voyage up north a few months ago.
I've never had an issue that I couldn't trace back to a power problem. That would be the first place I'd look.
We've had ours for a year, one extended workout on a trip after pruchase last fall and a number of brief uses since. I repositioned the plug to get a better connection and that ended the problem of it working loose because of stuff bumping on it. Since then, it's been super reliable.
Chris,
Here are a couple of pics with the new slide and showing how far you can open the lid. Did some trials with moving the platform out until it hit the rear door. First pic is normal position and second pic is platform all the way back.
Just to throw it out there . . . if you watch the clearance section on Compact Appliance's website you can sometimes find an "open box" or "scratch and dent" unit. I watched for a few weeks and one popped up for . . . $331.55 shipped. It arrived with one small dent and works fine.
I have had mine for 2 years 3 summers use it continuously from april to december only had one issue and that was junk batteries otherwise it has always shut down at 10 volts and the FJC has always started except of course when the batteries where junk. thing is awesome if it failed now I'd buy another one.
