it is true that it is more effective to cover the windows than the fridge, especially if the cover is outside, but not quite as practical unfortunately.

You can use mylar covered bubble wrap they sell at home depot to cover your rear windows. I have that with small velcro squares to hold it to the windows, and some brown nylon ripstop curtains that velcro to the rubber weatherstripping on the inside of the rear sliders. The rear window curtains are two layers of the brown ripstop, made em 5 years ago or so. I also made a double layer curtain for the rear window for privacy, held with velcro. I also made some single layer ripstop curtains for the rear door windows to put up when we do road trips. I put the mylar up about a month ago, and it has knocked down the cargo area temps by about 10-25 degrees. You can also use that mylar bubble wrap around your fridge or cooler too.

Have any pics of how this looked all set up?

I'll try to take some this evening and throw them up.

Park your truck in the shade and find out. ;)

Let me see if these will work

Hancock Fabrics had it when I built them in 2007 or so. Ripstop Nylon. It was in their outdoor fabrics section. I bought about 10 yards of it on sale with a 45% off coupon. Joann Fabrics might have it too. I used a woodburning tool on a piece of metal to cut/seal the edges. The double layers get fused together by the wooodburning tool.

If I were to do it fresh from scratch, Id make single layer panels, and use 3m adhesive spray to stick the fabric to the mylar bubble wrap. This way they could be rolled up, folded, etc.

Edgestar update, frig is still working good. Only gripe is the 10-12degree temperature range from the set temperature so I have to keep it at 30 to prevent a freeze/thaw effect .. Example, if set at 34deg. it cycles between 24-35 degrees

Used my 43qt all weekend and I think I've convinced a number of people to get on board!

@GarnerFJ40 this is the thread talking about the fridge I have.

I put a strong refrigerator magnet on the lid to make opening and closing easier.. It works great!

Internet is spotty here at work so if it was already covered somewhere, please point me that way...

I've had my 43 at edgestar for 5 years now, but has been sitting unused for the past 4 due to lack of wheeling/need. I plugged it in last night for am upcoming labor day trip and set the thermostat to 39. Internal temp at startup read 76. After a couple hours I go to the truck to check on it and it's nice and cold inside, but the display is reading "-03". If I use the up/down buttons I can switch between "-01" and the "-03". I know these aren't temp settings. "Set" button doesn't seem to change anything, though the fast freeze button does work. I unplugged it as i didnt want it running like that overnight. The back of the truck is empty so there's not a concern of air flow.

I looked through the owners manual and troubleshooting but found nothing. An internet search yielded nothing either. The fridge has worked flawlessly in the past.

Thoughts?

I have an edgestar 63 quart for sale in Fort Worth, Texas. It was brand new when I got it 2-3 years ago. Works great and the handles have been upgraded to metal. It's listed for $400, I'll take $350 if anyone wants it. Thanks.
