Background: I bought 2 sets of Hella 550's for my 80, to light up the trails & area in the deer lease & the beach when I launch the kayaks. To say I've been disappointed in the lack of light output would be an understatement.

Enter eBay LED's.

I experimented and purchased a set of 3x3 Cree 18w offroad lights that some Chinese seller posted. They claim a 3 year warranty but I'm skeptical at best lol.
Anyway, I got around to installing them today & WOW. These puppies are bright!

I went ahead and ordered another set for the future roof rack, as well as a 20" and 40" bar from the same seller. I will update this thread as I install those.

Feel free to post your experiences positive or negative.

Happy 4th!

Installed

Wired them to my existing Hella lighting:

Day time brightness:

This pic does not do these things justice. Night time pics to come once I've aimed them.

Yeah, I had hellas and piaa. Neither came remotely close to the chinese cree lights. I put a total of 6 on mine. Check out my sig for pics.

Any pics of the lights on at night?

Good thread btw - Supra... Hmm. I just sold my 1na/t SC300 project.

FWIW I laughed as well. Idk why anyone would buy PIAA or Hella or even Light Force.

I've been running 550 for awhile. My primary use is night wheeling, where all I generally care about is 30ft in front of the truck.

I have them mounted on my MetalTech bumper and my biggest problem is they always fill with water/mud.

How is the overall construction? Do they seem very sealed?

I bought the same that averaged about $28 a piece. Mine are the floods and they are awesome. I use them on my John Deere tractor for mowing at night. The only thing I did to them was run a small bead of clear silicone along the bottom of the glass for added protection against water.

Here's the one that I purchased. Took about 2 1/2 weeks to receive. Highly recommend them for a cheap, low wattage and high powered off road light.

UWDave, construction is very well done.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to pick up some silicon Friday.

Dave: my hella 550's weren't sealed at all - there was a 1/4 inch gap around the lens after installing the bulbs. These LEDs seem to be much higher quality - which is astounding since the Germans are usually QC & engineering freaks!

The 550's were probably made in China anyway.

pretty cool. I'm away from my truck for another month.. does anyone happen to know the (c-c) distance between the upper, aux, light brackets on an ARB bumper?

thanks, Wc

Noah, you use those LEDs as fogs? Have you been stopped by the popo yet? I fear mine are waaaay too brite to drive with on public roads.

However, the next Nissan Sentra that cuts me off is getting blinded!

I've used 3 of these LED lights for a while now. Supposedly they have 2150 lumens output. They are very bright. Not necessarily the best pattern, but they are what they are. I have one on the back of the LC for backing up and while at camp, etc. Two (narrow pattern) on the front of my motorcycle. No issues out of either, except the supplied mounting bolt is not stainless, so either swap it out of it'll rust.
