Some of you are way more adept at these things than I am so I'm reaching out! One of my amazon bumper lights $hit the bed so I took it apart just for S&G. Turns out, I should be able to fix this with some knowledge. The led cluster was falling apart but it still worked. The adhesive that kept it stuck to the PCB let go, which I think was due to not so IP67 sealed O ring, which allowed moisture intrusion. It's Chinesium, what do you expect!

So, where can I purchase this LED cluster, and what is the adhesive that I need? Looks like this same adhesive was also used to create a bond between the PCB and the heatsink so it needs to be heat conductive as well.

Secondly, does Amazon sell round lenses made out of some sort of a composite material? If so, I'd like to change the filter color to a more yellowish color for better fog and heavy snow penetration. This is a 3" lens. What is the search string I should be using?

Thank you.
Oh, paging George @taskled ;)

For permanent adhesive, use epoxy. For conductivity, use steel fiber reinforced composite epoxy.
AKA JB Weld.

You know you can search by image, right? Take a picture and try that. It doesn't work all the time, but when it does, it's pretty good.

Hi Ali, sorry for the delay. Was in Japan and then returned + thanksgiving + brain fossil effect.

Anyhow, that LED should have been soldered down. Likely got really hot and the solder gave way. Likely also not a good solder reflow to start. Anyhow, it would need to be reflowed with solder paste.

The MCPCB (main board) is likely mounted to the housing via thermal tape material, either adhesive based or not, since there are retaining screws to keep pressure on the MCPCB to housing interface. There's thermal pad material available at places such as digikey/mouser that can be purchased in small sheets and then cut/trimmed.

May be easier to get new lights :)

cheers,
george.

Personally, I'd just replace the pair. Even The good Chinese lights (yes they exist) are cheap. Cheap ones are a dime a dozen. What is your time worth?

Mark...

All good points, thank you. Just trying to recycle and not fill up the landfill. Might have to get new Chinese lights.
