Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give.

1987 FJ60.

We are trying to add some LED taillights to in a custom bumper.

The goal is to continue running the stock taillights for parking/brake/turn signals plus the LEDs in the bumper for the same functions.

Right now we have parking lights and brake lights in the LEDs, but no turn signals. The only way we can get turn signals (or hazards) in the LEDs are if the brake lights are lit first, and then add the turn signal/hazard.

We tapped into the driver side taillight with some vampire connectors, and then ran the Toyota 5-to-4 wire converter to go to the LEDs.

Any thoughts? Thanks

The LEDs don't have enough resistance to trip the blinker relay. Pretty common and easy to fix. You can get resistors for exactly this purpose to mimic the load of an incandescent bulb. There are a million flavors on Amazon for about 2$ each. You need one for each blinker.
