I say all of the molded carpet kits offered by the vendors are junk. I bought a deluxe kit and was sorely disappointed with the quality of the carpet fibers. Don't waste your money. Buy the SOR three piece set in the classifieds for cheap and be done with it. Best bet is to check with @Racer65 to see if his reproduction mats are ready to order.

carpet in a 40 is horrible idea.

Depends on use and location. Here in the Southwest on a hard top model with carpeting that is easy to pull out if wet it works. I pulled out the glued down carpeting out of my 73 a PO installed. Biggest pain is getting the glue without damaging the original paint, no rust. Serious thinking about using carpeting for sound deadening and insulation in 79 hard top. Then put the factory over it. Have soft top models and hard top won't be removed. With a rubber mat on top you need to be sure to pull it out if it gets wet just like keeping the rear sill and other areas clean so doesn't hold moisture. But still nothing compared to areas with high humidity. We have issues with UV damage then rust.

No carpet > any carpet. It's wrong for a 40 and is only a source for problems in the future. What's next, AC, cruise control, power locks? Just say no!

I have a hard top. its almost rust free as in almost 100% rust free!
It does leak from the top roof and I had planned on pulling the top off and resetting the gaskets with new ones.

I have an actual convertable so not so much into that with a FJ40

I wanted a more finished look, new seats, new roof and a new stereo end to end subs and all high class finished off with floor mats.

I love having carpet in my 40. With rubber mats or just the metal floor all the dirt and little rocks roll into spots where its really hard to clean. With carpet it grabs the rocks. I just went to home depot and got their outdoor carpet with rubber backing and cut it to mold the hump and passenger and driver areas. Its 3 piece so I can remove it easily if it gets wet underneath. I even went to harbor freight and got the rubber diamondplate and cut it and stuck it to the high foot traffic spots. Cost me like 60 bucks tops. Looks pretty good with the fj60 shift boots I installed.

Here ya go. I have the 3 front pieces in for about a year and a half, I still like it. I could have cut it a little better on the driver and passenger side, but for the most part it looks good in real life. Kinda looks crappy in the pic. It is pretty cheap to get another piece and to duplicate it. I used thick paper and tape and placed it on the floor. I cut the paper around where I needed the shift boot holes to be and other obstructions. Once I had the paper all laid out I removed it in 3 pieces and placed the 3 pieces over carpet and cut the carpet out. I actually used the paper dealership protective mats they put on your floor as my paper template. I just taped the pieces together as I laid them out on the floor of my rig. Then removed the templates.
