I have a 67 40 and am finishing the electrical but i'm scratching my head a little. Call it wiring fatigue but I can't make sense of something that should be so easy. I have all the diagrams I need but things are not computing in my head.

With that said, here is a pic of my stock light switch. I tested the existing wires in the picture and they appear to be working great. However, I have 2 remaining wires left that I could use your help with.

Can someone tell me where the gauge lights and parking lights go on the switch? I numbered the switch so you can just tell me the number. Sorry for the rookie question but I appreciate it. If you see any glaring mistakes, please let me know.

The two terminals not occupied I believe are for the curtcourtesy light/ pilot circuit and rear running light circuit if my diagram is correct, installing a painless harness??

I actually have the courtesy light above the passenger door dialed in. All I have left are two wires left (not pictured) . One wire says "power for gauge lights" and the other says "front parking lights". I just don't know where they go on the switch.

Aren't the front parking lights the little round ones on the early bib? I think the previous owner had that wire shared with the headlights but I don't know if that's correct.

most likely the PO did put the 2 together, in stock form when the headlights came on the front lights went out and was OK back then but law enforcement these days don't like it that way and it's easier to just connect them together than to be pulled over for no reason.

I tied the parking lights to headlight as well, but can't recall what's what what on the switch

I just realized my lights weren't following the behavior in the original manual. I haven't been able to drive it at night yet, so glad I caught it. Mine is a '67 (with the rotary knob) and the "front small lights" are white, which is a parking light in my book (and Washington state code says a front parking light may be white or amber, but a front clearance/driving light must be amber). I don't believe these white ones should be on with the headlights, though amber ones could be. As far as I read my state laws, it doesn't sound like a clearance light is required in front (just that if it's there, it must be amber).

Anyway, my switch must be all messed up-
Position 1- Front Smalls, Tails on. Should be Headlights, Tails
Position 2- Headlights, Front Smalls on (and Tails off). Should be Front Small, Tail lights
Position 3 - only Front Smalls. Should be only Tail lights

Thanks Josh for the picture... now I gotta go figure this out.

Has anyone looked at the FSM to see if this marked? Didn't read thru all the responses but know there is no dimmer terminal. Headlights wire goes to dimmer switch and then to either high or low beams. A dash light dimmer was around ten years away and was in the light switch itself.

Funny that I have never seen the early head light switch hookup diagram in any Toyota publication or service bulletin!

Sounds like a search challenge for Living in the Past, or Johnny C?
