I've never seen a 40 carb like this before. Anyone have any info on it?

it has the look of an Aisin carb, but many features either seem out of place, or missing. I don't know what to make of it

Have to say the sight glass is really cool.
yeah! I didn't notice it at first, I was looking for the window, and couldn't see it in the pics, and then saw the sight glass.

Looks like it would work as replacement. But unless you can rob the linkage for the hand throttle from another carb and make it work your going to lose that option.

It is indeed a Hitachi, it would fit an early Patrol, I have one on my '63. The bolt pattern is too large to fit an F135 intake, and parts are harder to find than the Toyota large window...ask me how I know. I want this, need this, but at $200? Nissan went with a Rochester "B" 1bbl in the mid 60s, as did many 25 and 40 owners. Earl Warden told me that he chucked many a large sight glass carb into the bushes in favor of the Rochester....

did you go back there to see if you could dig them out of the ground? :)

Earl use to be in Placerville, CA. I bet that where he tossed them. John (Partion) would have a better idea where to look. I was at Earl's shop about fifteen years ago when Earl's son Danny was running it. John also had access to the barn where Earl had all his parts. Probably best to just let it go. The gold rush is over in Placerville don't need to start a new rush now.

I believe a lot of the FJ45 pickups were sold in this area too. This was the reason I was there, I got my FJ45 not to far from there (thanks again John)
