I'm trying to get my e-locker third to come out of the axle housing, but I can't get it out. I slide out out on the studs about 1/2 inch and then 'clunk' it hits something. What do I need to do?

Thanks!

Bingo! You have to lock the front e-locker before removing it.

Hmmm.... that sounds easy, but I can't get it to engage. Any tips? I plugged everything back in and put a couple nuts back on. When I shift to low I hear the center diff make a noise, but when I flip the switch I don't hear a sound from the front or the rear. What should I check next?

If your CDL can't actually engage (front/rear splines not lined up) it won't allow the rear and then front lockers to engage. Make sure the CDL light is coming on solid.

Same story for the front diff.. if it has tried to lock but the splines aren't lined up, then you may have to help it by putting an axle shaft back in and twisting.

Are you pulling the rear, or the front?

I read, but didn't see.

And yes to locked position - you need to lift 1 tire on whichever axle & just spin while locker actuator is trying to lock. When it won't spin, the dash cluster should confirm locked with a steady lit icon. Blinks when trying & open.

If you're already well torn down & driveshafts are all out (just thought for a sec) - then hell with it, you can get it out & lock manually after. Locked just makes reassembly easier.

The rear has a good sized ring gear, so if you're pulling that end it's just a big mother, prob about 55#'s or better. The factory even notched the sealing flange for the rear locker 3rd where the ring gear rides to give clearance on in & out of 3rds.

Beyond that, can you use a floorjack & crib to roll it out? You on a lift & have a trans jack?

cant remember which way coz I don't have e-lockers but it has to be either engaged or disengaged so the actuator clears the axle housing to remove it
not locked then, cause i pulled front unlocked. rear doesn't matter on pulling, but you want it locked on install

I finally got a little time to work on this again. We just had our third kid and it has been hard to make time to work on things!

I'm have the front axle fully dissembled. The third is definitely hitting something on the locker side. I got the center diff locked. I'm not sure what light I am looking for on the dash, but it is locked. I can tell by the way the flange doesn't move. I tried to lock the front and inserted an axle shaft to get it to engage. No dice. I lifted a back tire and tried the back. Again, no dice. I heard the center lock when I shifted into LOW, but with the front and rear there is no sounds. I confirmed that both work when I bought it, which was recently.

Maybe I don't need it lock anyway, but something is definitely hung up. Any other clues/thoughts/ideas?!

The front diff needs to be locked to get it out. The collar that slides across to engage splines hangs out the side when it is unlocked.

The reason people mentioned lights was to get the computer to engage the locker. At this point it may be easier to remove the actuator and manually slide the fork over using the rack teeth through the actuator hole. Be sure you have a FSM to reindex everything after taking this step.. if you just throw the actuator back in it won't work correctly.

I was just reading....

My center diff is locked, but the light is not on. Will that keep the front and rear from locking? Why wouldn't that light up? It isn't even flashing like the others do.

If center bulb is not on - front and rear will not engage.
CD bulb do not blinking. It only have ON and OFF option.

If CD is locked but light is off, check bulb, check CD sensor near CD actuator, may be it is time to rebuild it or buy new one.
