E-brake for the split case

Has anyone put a drum brake on split case by making it themselves? Made a braket and fitted some type of drum brake to the split case that didn't come with brake?

I am just making a plate for the toy case to build a crossmember for it and that got me wondering about the split case. I am experminting with the toy case for now and would appreciate any advice.

there are oem parts to do this. Gotta imagine you would have some trouble fitting a drum and backing plate to the splitcase without the help of the factory parts.

What about a disk brake on the back of the t-case? I hear they are getting better.

Or disk brakes on the rear axle with parking calipers

This is good as your gonna get unless you breakdown and buy the longer shaft, rear housing and a few outher small items....

The 47 had the TC drum brake.. I dont know if the output shaft needs to be changed to make this work though..
Marks adaptors here in Aus do a split case handbrake kit with some Toyota parts and some custom parts.

it really shouldnt be that hard to make a kit up i mean a lazer cut circle with 4 bolt holes 4 longer bolts to replace the d/s studs a brake caliper from a gokart or trailer brake setup and a bracket to hold the caliper in place

about 200 in parts if that

I will likely put a disc brake on it , but I would liked it to be a drum.
I would have changed my rears to the newer one, but I already have money invested in my current rears so I would like to keep them.

SOR told me two weeks ago they were selling me the last split case e-brake setup they had for a conversion I'm building for bikerso.

While I was building the case [with the Mark's lo-range gearset] I was wondering what the future of this e-brake setup might be.

1. Since the parking brake drum needs to have the split case spline count, which is different from the 40 series, the best you could hope for would be to cut the whole center stalk off of a 40 drum and mount it to the split case rear output flange.

2. If the drum were mounted OUTSIDE The flange, then the flange could end up being very close to the shoes and springs. Conversely, if the drum were mounted inboard of the flange, you'd have to cut a much larger hole in the drum to get around the step in the flange that centers the driveshaft.

3. This leaves nothing to say for the fact that the rear extension housing has no provisions for mounting the backing plate to, so you'd have to come up with a design for that as well. Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would probably take something akin to a wheel spacer that you could run the bolts for the extension housing thru [with a cutout for the speedo cable!] and then the threaded holes for the backing plate to attach to.

4. When all is said and done, I've got more profitable things to do with my time than invest that much time fabbing something I could still probably track down with a little work. But I can still daydream of the concepts, same as you!

what about machine the center nose out of the drum and turn the drum a 1/4 turn and re drill the hub to fit the flange and bolt it to the flange then bolt the drive line to the old studs that were in the parking brake hub from the factory just a thought

MAF Split Transfer Case Parking Brake Conversion Kit

Looking at the MAF conversion kit, it shows what appears to be just stuff from a regular 4 speed... Is it possible to pull that gear from a 4 speed, along with the other parts and just swap them onto the split case? I have a older 4 speed and a newer split case and would like to to this conversion.

having to deal with the expense of going factory, the probability that it will/would leak (just like the 40 series), or the disc conversion not working as well as you'd like it to (especially on the trail), or lastly endless hours "re-inventing the wheel", why not take the easier route and just get a rear end with a parking brake incorporated within it?

this is the route im going to travel. iv read a little on rear monty carlo disks with built in e brake caliper.

you said you had some money into the rear, you could sell it here on Mud
