Seems to me that I am not the only one who would eventually like to have a new set of RK3s on my rig when the restoration is completed. Apparently, they are still being produced in Malaysia, but can not be exported from there, or imported here, or something like that.

Next option would be Coker Tire, as they could make a mold off a good RK3, (which a couple of guys here do have), and then they could produce new tires from the new mold, but Coker will not make any unless they know there is a market for them.

So, while I am not the guy who will be able to bring this to fruition, (I am kinda hoping a mud shop would take this on) I figured that if enough guys will sign up here to show Coker that there is interest in the old RK3, that they might take it on, and sell them for a reasonable price.

Post up if you are interested, and how many you'd buy, and any comments.

One day I'd like at least 1 full set of 5 :D

Dean you should make this a poll?

How so?

Edit: Johnny, all I want to see is how many are interested, and how many tires they would buy at a reasonable price. Do you think a poll would work better for this?

There was an old thread where people were looking for the original tires or those that were similiar too them.
https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-club/65091-dunlop-rk3-roadtrak-major-15-a-3.html

Someone did contact Coker and they stated that they would need approximately orders totaling $50,000 before they would even consider it.

That was a while ago so maybe some things changed.
From: My Wife Said No FJ!
"Like I said, I called Coker Tire, and besides the costs for molds and design stuff, they would still need to move several hundred tires, so the guy tells me that we'd be looking at at least over fifty grand to start

If anyone can get a better answer, let me know!

Also, if anyone has fifty grand to go ahead, let me know, as I'd be interested in at least one complete set of 5 tires at a regular tire price

Later,
Dean"

Yup, that was me  For the last year or so we looked at getting the ones made in Malaysia shipped to Australia, then here (contact in Australia), but apparently very difficult, or I am just missing something.

I figured that doing this thread will show how many tires are being requested, and take it from there. Maybe now they will be open to accepting/making a smaller order, but I will not call again unless we have a decent "order" to show them.

Edit: ...you need tires?

I would love to buy a set, but I need another FJ40 (FJ25 would be sweet) pre-1971 so I can have my full stocker. My fiance' requests that I finish up my 75 and 76 before I get another cruiser and these will be modified slightly so these tires would not go with the overall plan on the 75 and 76. My next cruiser would need them though.

I have actually been saving pictures of this tire just in case there was ever a need for them for production purposes...Looks like Whitey45's RK3 would be perfect for referencing and using for a mold.
Anyone contact SOR, CCOT, or Man-a-Fre about this? They are the big players with the reputation, capital, and customer base to get this going.

EDIT: Maybe JohnnyC's idea of a poll would be a good idea to show SOR, CCOT, or Man-a-Fre the amount of interest that there would be for this tire just based on the Mud forum/ just a portion of cruiser owners. This might be a good sample statistic for all of those out there that have a 25,40,55, and 45 series (not necessarilly just fellow Mudders) that would want these tires for the stock look.
