The upper echelon of mediocrity.
A few weeks back I opened the post regarding input on the cat-back for the 100; many great replies and good info that was reviewed by Nick and Jamie at DT. When I ordered the headers with the 3rd group buy last year, I spoke with Nick and had some discussions regarding the possibility if "completing" the exhaust sys. & using Beastie as a donor/dev't truck. A couple weeks ago, they did the cat-back dev't install; got 'er home for a few days and returned back for the header install.

Observations:

They did a really trick job with the install and kept the sys high and tucked in, but there is still adequate clearance from body floor and frame. Skid plates should mount with no issues as the muffler and tubes are well within stock routing. They utilize a single muffler and dumped the resonator. Beastie has Slee's Sliders (Christo, shouldn't they really be Sleeders?) and they have plenty of clearance for mounting hardware.

Performance & Sound:

Like I mentioned, we had the cat-back installed prior to the header install, with drive time in between. Stock manifolds and the cat-back did have a perceptible performance difference - smoother acceleration and a bit more responsive; I would classify this as an incremental change vs. a fundamental change. The sound is definitely an improvement over stock - mild & not something that will pi$$ of the neighbors at low rpms, but it does have some throat at mid R's. I found peak resonance ~1850 - 2150, but not something that disrupts interior conversation. The back is still pretty quite, but obviously a little noisier in the cabin than stock config. We're running Toyo MTs/315's, and they are the noise makers. Overall, I'm pleased and have gotten used to the sound. BTW, :princess: said it was quieter, while SNO said it was 'louder' (I think he meant deeper sound); She wins and that might help.

After the headers were installed, the performance was a fundamental difference (Beastie has Slees front/rear/tire carrier/sliders, half rack with stock gears). I'm not going to rehash the "wows', but will agree with previously statedv gains. Earlier this week I had training in Vega$; going NB on the 15 there was a lot more power available and passing was fun - & going up Mountain Pass, let's just say I in the fast lane and approaching a speed that permits 100 miles to the hour, and there was still acceleration available. Not something I would normally do, but nothing says "get the 'ell outa my way like a a 100 on meth. Going uphill. I'm sure the cat-back helps with uncorking the back end, but I have no baseline to go against.

Cost:

Nick is VERY confident that the cat back systems will be sub $500, and likely closer to mid-$400, if not less. All will be 304 SS like the headers.

Sweet! Great job on being a donor rig!

How is this differ/better than a Borla, besides price...?

So are we doing a group buy and is this available now? I'm in!

I'll take one whenever they're ready to start producing them.

My experience with turn down tips will likely be responsible for droning.

For me to be interested I need some questions answered:

- Weight vs Stock?

- Dyno output vs stock (third party dyno)?

- Skid plate compatible?

- Spare tire compatible?

- Straight tip option?

I did the header dyno runs and I would want to see the same detail.

I installed a turn down tip on mine and cut off the resonator; there is absolutely zero drone. It just sounds more V8 like (mainly due to removing the resonator)

BTW, consider me in with a sub-500 price.

VERY nice. What size is the piping?

That's a good data point but the muffler will contribute to that effect. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to have this alternative but more info is needed.

I'd also be in if a group buy starts;)

My question will be compatability with a Luke's rear bumper and the BIOR skid plate.

Looks nice though, are you using the stock cats?

If you have a bumper that requires cutting off the rear cross member you will have to modify the tip from looking at the pictures. The rear hanger arm will have to be cut off more than likely. Might have to shorten the tip as well depending how close it is to the bumper.

I would like to get in on a group buy. I am waiting to put my headers on for this reason. I believe I would like an option for high flow converters also. Compatibility would be nice for A/M bumpers too. None the less, this is a good start to what I have been wanting from DT!

I sent them an email letting them know that myself and some others are definitely interested in the DT catback for the 100.

OK, a little follow-up from last week. 'Ol Beastie-girl has about 165K on the odo, with about 800 miles on it since the cat-back and header install a couple weeks ago. Has the goodies - described a little later; running 315's and stock gears. Still really pleased with gains and a more 'realer' V8 huff 'n puff. I'm still trying to get milage data, but I think she's getting a little better than prior, same or similar driving habits. Not by much, maybe .25 - .5 local & maybe slightly better with highway. Will keep posted.

I'm not intimately familiar with the Borla system; I have understood from past comments that clearance could have been better. The DT system remains within the stock routing corridor, but kept up higher & out of the way.

The Beast-o-matic has been SLEE'D all around; also have a Warn 12k in front with a 315 hanging off the rear carrier; obviously a few hundred pounds heavier + the tool 'n recovery bags in rear.

For the Dyno, I'd be really happy if I could have done the testing, especially as thorough as you did for the headers. That said, I don't have any testing other than seat of the pants. Which (cat back) was still a noticable + change (for me). Ideally, your LC would be the best vehicle to test as it has been baselined, and keeping the varibles to a minimum. I'll be happy to kick some $ your way to help get the cat-back differential info paired up with the published header info.

Skid plate: Again, the system follows the stock routing corridor and does not go below the frame rails where the skid plate(s) would have potential issues. Although I won't factually state that the skidplates will fit without having put them in, It does appear that the cat back will not cause interference.

Spare tire: Since the resonator is gone, there is actually more room available towards the pax side. I measured a little more than 19" from the center of the STOCK spare tire hanger to the new exhaust pipe. I think the DS/FWD/RR stop bars will be the controlling items. BTW, the hanger looked biased to the DS.

Straight tip: Talk with Nick and see if they could provide a clamp option to accommodate both straight & turn down tips?

I haven't weighed the DT system, but I suspect it will be considerably lighter than stock; DT should be able to present that info.

2.5" at the rear.

Semper FI! and a fellow ROTRHD...

Not familiar enough with Luke's bumper or the BIOR Skids, so I can't answer beyond what was stated earlier. The Cats are stock config for the sections between headers & cat-back.

I'll try to answer any other questions/concerns. Here's some images to show the 'few' mods to Beastie:
