A few weeks back I opened the post regarding input on the cat-back for the 100; many great replies and good info that was reviewed by Nick and Jamie at DT. When I ordered the headers with the 3rd group buy last year, I spoke with Nick and had some discussions regarding the possibility if "completing" the exhaust sys. & using Beastie as a donor/dev't truck. A couple weeks ago, they did the cat-back dev't install; got 'er home for a few days and returned back for the header install.
Observations:
They did a really trick job with the install and kept the sys high and tucked in, but there is still adequate clearance from body floor and frame. Skid plates should mount with no issues as the muffler and tubes are well within stock routing. They utilize a single muffler and dumped the resonator. Beastie has Slee's Sliders (Christo, shouldn't they really be Sleeders?) and they have plenty of clearance for mounting hardware.
Performance & Sound:
Like I mentioned, we had the cat-back installed prior to the header install, with drive time in between. Stock manifolds and the cat-back did have a perceptible performance difference - smoother acceleration and a bit more responsive; I would classify this as an incremental change vs. a fundamental change. The sound is definitely an improvement over stock - mild & not something that will pi$$ of the neighbors at low rpms, but it does have some throat at mid R's. I found peak resonance ~1850 - 2150, but not something that disrupts interior conversation. The back is still pretty quite, but obviously a little noisier in the cabin than stock config. We're running Toyo MTs/315's, and they are the noise makers. Overall, I'm pleased and have gotten used to the sound. BTW,
said it was quieter, while SNO said it was 'louder' (I think he meant deeper sound); She wins and that might help.
After the headers were installed, the performance was a fundamental difference (Beastie has Slees front/rear/tire carrier/sliders, half rack with stock gears). I'm not going to rehash the "wows', but will agree with previously statedv gains. Earlier this week I had training in Vega$; going NB on the 15 there was a lot more power available and passing was fun - & going up Mountain Pass, let's just say I in the fast lane and approaching a speed that permits 100 miles to the hour, and there was still acceleration available. Not something I would normally do, but nothing says "get the 'ell outa my way like a a 100 on meth. Going uphill. I'm sure the cat-back helps with uncorking the back end, but I have no baseline to go against.
Cost:
Nick is VERY confident that the cat back systems will be sub $500, and likely closer to mid-$400, if not less. All will be 304 SS like the headers.
String of images & other follow (taken during brake install last week)...
