So then why not go to 5" pipes? :D
transitioning from 2.0" pipe directly into 2.5" pipe, while doing nothing else to the engine, does not necessarily translate to more HP/TQ

I for some reason thought the EMS replaced everything from the headers back with a larger diameter pipe. Not just the rear half.

Its a cat back, therefore from the catalytic converters, back exhaust.

This and the DT connect right after the second set of 02 sensors. If it replaced/removed the cats they would have to figure out 02 sensor simulators and the exhaust would not pass inspection in any state where they perform a "sniff test".

I am very interested to see an independent test of stock vs DT vs EMS on a dyno with a stock engine.

Independent dynos would be interesting. I can't imagine a 3" pipe extracting all that much more power from our relatively small V8s than a 2.5" I'm not so much interested in which exhaust yields more hp than which gets better low end torque. Pipes must be proportionate to the output power of the engine and bigger is not in every case better. Insufficient back pressure is sometimes a cause for concern when putting on oversized exhaust on a smaller engine. I'm not saying that's the case with the EMS exhaust, but this is why I'm not immediately jumping on the 3" is better than 2.5" bandwagon. You still have the same stock sized choke point at the cats anyways, so its not as if either of them are just straight pipes.

DT has been in the header and exhaust biz over eight times as long as "the competition" (as they have been referred to) so I'm not so quick to write off their system based off some polished pipes and unfounded claims of superior power. Like I already stated in a previous post; I've driven arotrhd's cruiser and unless his engine is in immaculate condition compared to mine, there was a considerable difference in power, for just having an exhaust advantage. Let the dynos sell the better exhaust.

Im going with the DT for the one and only reason of its cheaper while having similar quality. I also plan on tack welding all the connections so as not to rely on the clamps for ten years…would do that with the EMS "higher quality" clamps too.

what muffler is DT using...I see magnaflow on EMS but cant tell on DT.

after the headers here I know DT is riding a wave of popularity.....but remember DT is not owned by Doug Thorley any longer....wife got that in divorce years ago and he opened his own shop getting back to basics called Dougs Headers and was bought by Pertronix or someone like that...but is still involved in designing for them and stuff.

So while the companies listed are great companies....name only goes so far. I would like to see independent tests but in the end you can manipulate that data as well...I would look at quality of construction, material used, design, welds, components not manufactured by the vendor such as flanges or mufflers.....listen to a set and then decide based on price and YOUR perception of quality and right product for you...then buy the one that gives you most satisfaction.

Great having choices....increases competition, stabilizes pricing, encourages improvements. Some will buy for name only...happens all the time in our community and others. Some buy for price only. Some look at all of the above including reputation, perceived quality, etc......and buy the best for the money within reason.

Aint America Great!?

I believe it is a DT built muffler.

sent a PM to OP to ask if he knows...

I just like the lower growl of the magnaflow rather than the flowmaster sound or coming out sounding like a little tuner car boy band members vehicle. :)

i am hoping it does not sound stock.....has a lower growl at both idle and acceleration...and sounds like a V8 rather than a lesser motor trying to be one.

I like the sound of an 18" Magnaflow and no resonator....so looking for some real world reports on sound and such.

Longer my local shop takes to get me in schedule for my magnaflow and custom tucked pipes out the back.....the closer I am to just ordering the DT or other and being done with it. LOL

I 100% agree. I am not a fan of small V8's with exhaust. I hope this one has a deeper, throatier sound to it. Nothing sounds worse though, than a truck with a V6 dualed out.

Nice!! I see where my paycheck going this time!

To echo the above post....Just got a call from Nick that they are going out tomorrow, tracking number and everything. I think I believe it this time.

Are most folks getting emails from Nick saying they are shipping out? I haven't gotten any kind of notification.
