I am wondering if anyone has seen or could point me to a drawer design that allows for the 3rd row seats to remain installed but folded. I am wanting to make a modular design that can be removed in 20-30 minutes to allow the third row to be used when needed. Has anyone seen such a thing? 200 series LX.

Thanks!

Front Runner Outfitters (Front Runner Drawers) show their drawers installed in a LC200 both with the third row seats and without:

You'd have to talk with them about whether the same is possible on your LX.

Even if possible, removal and installation would probably be more than the 20-30 minutes you hope for.

Just a thought.

if you are looking for modularity and easy removal, you are probably going to be looking at a custom build.
there are a few members that have gone down this road with some amazing results.
619toy built a beautiful drawer system.
if you go over to IG, Overland dad built a drawer system that is modular and removable, so that the third row can be reinstalled and used when needed.
there is another member that made a plywood template that allows for the seats to come down. i think the thread is called "false floor"

i built my fridge slide/drawer to only take up half the back, so that i could use the left side 3rd row when needed.
if i was going to build it again, i would follow the path of overland dad or the false floor and bolt the drawer to that.

diy is way to go. I have very simple homemade drawers and I can remove them, and reinstall the seats in 15 minutes.

Keeping the seats in place will cost you 4-5 inches in width. For me it wasn’t worth the trade off. The seats are 4 bolts each. No biggie to swap for the way we use the truck.

Look about half way down the page.

I like drifta because they don’t waste space with metal drawer slides, but their drawers are butter smooth with a ton of weight in them. Unlike others I’ve felt. Just another option for you to think about.

Those same Teflon slides I think can be used to quickly mount and unmount the entire drawer system if combined with a base plate.

Edit: something like this where the track can be counter sunk into the base plate, and the "slides" attached to the bottom of the drawers. This way w/ the drawers removed you've have the t-slot track for use as tie down points. To attach the drawers you'd slide them in, and then attach a cap over the end to keep them from sliding back/forth. Admittedly I have not done the math to understand the hold strength for example if the truck flipped or if you hit a big "jump" but I assume w/ enough of the slides, or one long single piece of slide material the entire length they should hold fine.

It's funny you sent this I was just looking at their solutions and was thinking how well they align with my own personal design strategies. For example building in a drawer fridge into one of the drawers, and ducking an on-board water tank behind the drawers (but integrated). Also the use of a narrow slot to add a "table". Even before seeing all this from them it's exactly where I was going w/ my build - glad to see I'm not the only crazy one. I still think I'll end up going custom though, have a few other ideas I'd like to incorporate as well.

I'd love to see up close/get my hands on the drawer slides they use, @Taco2Cruiser or @Poupon do you have any detailed pics?

I've purchased raw materials from Drifta before. I wouldn't be shocked if they'd sell you PTFE, bootliner, etc. Not sure it would be worth it worth it with freight? May be worth asking.

If I can't find it locally I'll go that route. But really... Should be available stateside wouldn't you think? And how do we feel about use of carpet (soft) vs bedliner? I can see the benefits of both.

Thank you for everyone's responses, that was quick and lot of good suggestions. I am particularly intrigued by the T-slot suggestion for ease of install/uninstall.

If there weren't the electronics to deal with in the third row of the LX, I would be on-board with uninstalling and reinstalling the third row coincident with the drawer system. However, that's more involved than I would like it to be for easy transfers. Thanks again, and keep it coming if anyone has more suggestions.

That’s one thing about my ARB drawers that I’m not thrilled about... Inside, they lose a lot of height due to structure & mechanisms, rollers, etc. They are super solid...but definitely some wasted volume.

On the bright side...they handle my heaviest crap very well (tools, recovery items, etc) but efficient use of volume is not great.

You are talking about the wiring harnesses right? It just unclips.

@TexAZ I'd like a similar setup, though with my drawer on the left so I can still put the right seat down. Did you create any plans you could share or just eyeball and cut until you were happy?

I'd also like a cargo barrier that wraps around the drawer so I can put my cooler and various other stuff in the back and not have it fall on the passenger or on my dog, but I suspect that's going to be a custom welding job at some point since the only barriers I've see go all the way across the back and none are certified with 3rd row airbags

If you give me a few days I can share some dimensions you'd be working with for "half" a setup. I'll also take a picture and annotate the base plate that Overlandad used, it's pretty darn close to perfect and in the few areas he over-cut he noted. I plan to pass along the template he made and pass down to me to whoever wants it, it's currently sitting in my garage in SD though.

That'd be awesome.

Anyone out there decent enough at welding to fab a custom barrier?

I can look to see if I still have the sketchup files for the drawer slides.
I basically free handed it, the went through and chopped a corner to move it over a couple inches closer to the wall. I made a 3 sided box to protect the seat back and keep stuff from falling behind the fridge when I slide it out. I put it on the left side when we are wheeling it camping and have lots of stuff.

Yeah, I was wondering this too. It adds 5 seconds to the install/removal vs. the non-powered LC third row.

Ok, that may change things. I didn't realize it was that simple; thanks for pointing that out RyanR and tbisaacs. I'll have to get some pics going once I start on this.
