Ok, just wondering since I see a spot on my hood that looks as if there should be a hood support holding it up when open? Both of my hood supports (the piston type located on the sides of the hood) are shot and I was looking for a cheap fix. I was going to goto the junk yard and pull one off any ol car but, just wondering if the non-us models had a support bracket come stock?

Just in case anyone is wondering, I am talking about the metal support bracket, say about 3 feet long, that you pull up and push in a slot in hood, all of which supports the hood open.:)

Vehicles without gas supports use a prop rod, similar to the way the mini-trucks are set up.

Really?? I thought they were magic and just held themselves up ;p

I think the question was if any non-USDM 80's were ever equipped w/ prop rods as opposed to hood struts.

I think you might want to check your aspirin supply and get pre-approved for a loan.

A better question might be if a prop-rod is available in the US. Perhaps the 60 uses the same part as the 80 would. Or maybe all Toys use the same prop rod.

I would fix the gas struts, hood props get in the way wile working.

And I anwwered that EXACT question by stating that vehicles without struts use a prop rod.:flipoff2:

Perhaps, but, for now I cant afford to fix them. Besides, now that my hand got smashed, my head got bumped and I smashed some things all due to the hood not wanting to stay up I think I need to find something quick. Oh ya, it didnt help with the extra weight from the Line-X being on the hood:doh:

Hey Dan,

Could you give me a ballpark figure as to how much it might run me to order a prop rod for the beast?

The part number is 53451-60010 and it is not used in this market. I do not have access to it. Mot may be able to obtain one since I got the part number out of my JDM catalog.

the extra weight may be a good case for a prop rod,

Many experienced professional mechanics keep a quick-adjusting prop rod around their work bench for the many cars that come their way with worn gas struts. They quickly and safely hold even the heaviest hoods up. It's prolly available via mechanic's supply houses. I'd look for something like that and have an underhood bracket to store it for quick use before I'd go to the trouble of getting a prop rod and welding on the brackets to install it. Plus the thing makes a formidable expanding steel baton type weapon if you wanted to carry something you'd have a good excuse for....

I will go in on a spec prop rod. I have almost 1/4" of rubber on my hood so I need it for the same reasons as 4dmalamute.

I haven't looked, but I'd place a bet that it bolts on and the holes for it are already there.

If you guys order them, make sure you order the clip that holds it in place when not in use too. Might as well get the bolts while you're ordering stuff.

The holes are there, a round hole on the left side of the core support for the grommet, rod and a square hole just right of the latch for the clip. One from a Mini or 60 would probably work, may require some bending at the lower end to stow properly.
