Trying to figure out why i have no dash lights, (turn indicator, high beam, dash lights, brake indicator or dome light)....none of my interior lights are working so I want to start by learning if the pull light switch controls the dash light brightness or dome light? I tried turning the light switch knob but gotta little dizzy, nothing else...i get parking with half pull and headlights with full pull...should i be expecting anything else from this switch?

thanks
Bret

no - there is no control of dash brightness

as far as I know, the dome light had a separate switch

Not sure if the new style head switch that started in 73 was able to control the speedometer cluster lights and the one in the dash pad but later ones did. If you can twist the knob it probably can. Up until the mid seventies there is a switch on the dash for the dome light. From then on it was a switch on the light. 73 should still have switch on the dash and dome light attached to the inside of the metal gutter for the fiberglass cap. When it moved to the B pillar it had the switch on the light. I'm 100% sure but don't think the parking lights were on with the head lights in 73. The amber lights on the apron should be on for both. The green flashers light in the speedometer gauge and brake light on the dash should not be affect by the dimmer in the head light switch.

Do you know if there is any control panel or switch that powers the cluster lights? I suppose it could be that all my bulbs are shot but not likely..since getting the cluster out of the dash has proven a longer than expected challenge, I am trying to rule any possible cause...

my dome light is attached to the front roll bar and am yet to locate a switch for it...all internal lights have proven a challenge

No switch. Sounds like you need a wiring diagram. Also, sound like your roll bar light is a PO add-on.

In 73 the soft top model had a dash light instead of a dome light. It was to the right of the glove box along with the switch. I believe Hard top would have a plug in that location 72-74. The back of you speedometer cluster was like a printed circuit board. There is a main plug for the wiring harness. The two speedometer light plugged into that board. There should also be a light in the center of padded dash. Two screws to remove it.

wiring diagrams can be had on Coolerman's website - search for posts with his username, click on the link to his website and browse away

so, are you saying the push button on the right side of my glove box controls the dome light?

...I've downloaded and saved the 73 diagrams from coolermans site and plan to put them to good use. The cluster is a soon-coming project but have had difficulty removing it from the dash to get a view at the backside. I was told by the PO it was multiple wire connections and not one main harness connection...we shall see when i can free it from the dashboards grip.

thanks for your feedback

the cluster is very easy to access IF your speedo cable coming through the firewall has enough slack. remove the 2 cluster screws and then push all the speedo cable slack through the firewall and you can at least remove all the bulbs. the cluster just needs to tip forward/down from the top. there are 2 tabs on the bottom that keep it from coming out with the speedo still attached. DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING WITH THE CLUSTER. CLUSTER'S LAST WORDS :D

in my truck it was to the left of the glovebox - small pull switch

My 1980 light switch also incorporates a rheostat for the dash lights. The dome light only has it's own switch built in to the bottom of the light.
