Hi group,

I've been looking at auctions online for a shortbased 70 series LC. My question is do they come with a 4.2L 1HD-FTE Diesel engine?

I guess the models would be called HDJ70, HDJ71, HDJ72, HDJ73, HDJ74.

Does this exist? Or do the owners of a 4.2L just put an aftermarket turbo on their LC?

Thanks!

I never saw them .. I guess Mr. T didn't thought it was needed .. what you can get for sure it's an FZJ71 which it's a rocket ship ..

Hello,

The 1HD-FTE was fitted only to Australian market 78 and 79 Series, and then only from 2002 (not sure) to 2006.

No SWB or MWB models with that engine.

There are a few 1HD-FTE conversions out there.

I guess you are interested in the 1HD-FTE's 200 HP.

You may want to get, say, an HZJ71/74 and do a 1HD conversion.

You may also want to get an FZJ71/74 if you want the same amount of power.

Hello,

Both the 1HZ and the 1HD-FTE share the same displacement, i. e., 4.2 liters. The latter has a turbo, 24 valves and electronics.

Regarding diesel options, the 71 and 74 only come with the 1HZ engine. Not as powerful as the 1HD but as reliable as it gets. Properly treated, it outlasts the owner. Diesel 71s and 74s were sold in the JDM and some selected markets.

Gasoline/petrol 71s/74s have the 1FZ-FE engine. You can find FZJ71s in South America and the Middle East. There are FZJ74s in the Middle East.

You could look for a KZJ71. This is a short wheel base 70 series with a turbo 3.0 IDI engine. It's a 'light duty' one, which means it has coil suspension, and an 8" diff in the back instead of a 9.5". Still tough trucks though. Get a manual trans one.

Kzj series are much under appreciated cruisers , the 1KZ makes as much power as the 1HZ but is a nicer daily driver with the coil springs. Talking about lhd ones now as I don’t know if the rhd JDM ones had the same stupid engine killing emmision crap as the jdm LJ series.

Not sure if there's a 3.4 turbo (13B-T) SWB 70 series, but there are certainly lots of MWB with that motor.

There are also a lot of the 1HZ 4.2 diesel Cruisers around with aftermarket turbos. Especially in Oz, where there are several kits available.

An experienced diesel tuner once told me he'd had really good results turboing 1HZ motors.

Cheers

Europe got BJ71s also. Therefore it is possible to find one in LHD.

The BJ74 is RHD only.

I wonder how hard it is to find a LHD BJ71.

Plenty floating around in Europe but highly appreciated by local Cruiserheads so nice examples are fetching prices between 15 to 30k for a pristine one..... btw that’s Euro not usd ;-)

Not hard at all. PM me, I have one that I'm prepping for sale. Hope this isn't a hijack. Car will be in the classified section in a couple weeks (hopefully).

Not that hard, a good one is another story.

Cheers

Thats pretty much true for all cruisers.

non-use markets always get all the cool stuff.

1 non-us cruiser is plenty for me. :) I'm neck deep in this one with hardly anytime to work on it as is...although a running/driving one would be nice.

Agreed! I've got a kzjKZ and I love it. Coils all around, very capable and finding more and more power every time I make an upgrade on my 1kzte
