I'm surprised the Toyota lawyers are okay with this. I mean, I get that the suitcase that's stuffed behind the rearview mirror leaves no room for the dashcam. But this is just crazy...

I took this pic yesterday on the test-drive.

... and saw this posted on a FB group. So, it seems to be where the dealers or port (?) are hanging them.

But on a positive note, I really liked the truck - more than I thought I would. That little 2.4 feels better than the 4.7 or 5.7. That was a surprise.

Yikes. I had a dashcam installed on my LR4 but left it with it when I sold it. Saw this was an option and thought about it, but this is terrible execution.

They could have at least put in on the other side. Better still, there's already cameras front and back that could be used along with an onboard DVR.

I saw that dashcam placement on a new 250 LC on the lot a few weeks ago.

Terrible placement but it was probably designed or intended for that position in RHD vehicles but no one ever adjusted its placement for LHD.

I am really surprised they didn't swap that to the US passenger side but seeing all the other issues they have going on it's not surprising.

That dashcam is a joke. And it's being forced on as an option at many dealers in my area. A $500+ add on.

Anyways, it's amazing the difference in opinions on the powertrain.

Some walking away just because of NVH from the engine, others like yourself praising the turbo 4cyl over the legendary 4.7 and (bit less legendary) 5.7.

That's awful.

Yep, if you are going up a hill on a right hand curve, it's in the middle of your field of view.
Not only is the placement terrible, it's a piece of junk. 32Gb capacity, playback via wifi is slow and choppy, etc.
Also, I think they cut the headliner for wiring access. Mine will be removed as soon as I have time. I hope I can get it off the windshield without too much trouble.

It is absolutely the worst atrocity of a dealer/port screw on.

At least they didn't drill holes in the roof for a roof rack like they did for the 80 series

I'll admit to loving how the new turbo, hybrid 4cly performs. But, I'm on fence overall. I love that the 4.7 is a 1/2 million mile engine. And, I have no illusions that the new platform will go that far... or 1/3 as far before it needs lots and lots of spendy parts.

I have one on mine and thought I'd remove it immediately. I've gotten used to it though and it doesn't really block the view. If I do every change it out, they've already ran the wires for me. 🤣

Much better than drivers who put a phone suction mount right in front of them and then have to look around it all times...

On my LR4, installing a Viofo A119 was an easy wiring job. Just spliced into the power wire for the overhead dome lights for accessory-power to the dashcam, then just ran the wire down in the very front of the headliner onto the windshield. Looks like it could work on the 250.

Not sure why the Toyota one needs to look like a full on taser.

I thought the position of the dash cam would bother me more, but it is not that big of a deal. I'm more aggravated with the difficulty of use so far. Maybe I'm just tech poor.

I had to go back to the dealer and they had trouble getting it to work. We finally figured out we had to turn off car play and the truck's wifi before the wifi on the dashcam would work. It's easier to just pull the SD card and put in a laptop. I also had big problems with CarPlay and the digital key.

The aftermarket will come out with a dvr addon using the pano view soon.

If you've ever watched dashcam footage online (or even your own dashcam footage) one thing you learn is that it's important to have audio as part of the dashcam recording. A lot of times you may think the other driver's license plate is clear, but it's not. Reflecting light at night, too far away, whatever. So it's always good to say the license plate out loud so that it's recorded with the footage.
