@cjmoon came by last night and has pointed me toward deleting the cats by the engine, that will solve a big chunk of my fears about heat by the floorboard. He also has some heat shielding to donate to the project. One major concern gone!!!!
I live in a non-smog state, so no inspection worries, so just makes sense. Will need to get a spark plug nonfouler thing to put downstream.
My 16 year old daughter and I Worked on new to her 4runner on Saturday. Had a great day doing the timing belt and all sorts of baselining ... but Sunday was able to roll vera back in and @tornadoalleycruiser stop by and help me through all sorts of questions... really amazing how many things we figured out and how long my list was when he left. Let’s start out with The steering column... we determined how much higher we could put it, so bent up a new column holder for the top, actually had to two of them because the first one was a little too big... then searched my parts Dash and found a shaft and u joints. Need to add about 5 inches and determined that an old tie rod from an 80 Series this is the exact correct ID Tubing
Here is how I bent, then made the angles on the new steering rod holder near dash.
The original in front, the final in middle and the big boy on the far side.
Steering column and the new section of tubing...
look familiar?? FOO donated this rod, after pretzeling it a couple times...
Actually the first point of action for the day was to determine where to mount the new air-conditioner and heater. This unit is from old air products and is called the hurricane.
Tranny tunnel welds all ground down, had to do some major heat shrinking to get rid of some deformed steel, but fits good now.
So this is the area where the glovebox will be. The top left will have the engine harness going through it and the are where it says flat, is where the bulkhead for the AC and heat lines will go. I need to chop that metal out and make it flat first --- or Erik @tornadoalleycruiser ... what if I cut that bulkhead in half and put two on the upper and two on the lower portion??? same basic place, just a lot less metal work.
Great getting out of my garage, Thanks for letting me ruin and make your day all at the same time. Kelly marking where the Whirrss are gonna go.. we figured out a lot of little details.
So if you recall this was originally a right hand drive truck, so it did not come with a glove box. Decided it would be nice to be able to unbolted it so
Made an aluminum tray. And also needed to leave room for the wiring harness and the AC lines as well as the heater a/c supply 2” hoses.
So I decided to buy some pods for under the dash and bought these as they were highly reviewed ... however I didn’t realize how big they were... They said they were 4 inch speakers so that’s what I was thinking...
Took one out and held them in place and they don’t seem too bad. Probably taking up less space than the factory air conditioner... Should be able to put them on little higher on the driver sid.
it took me a while to figure out how to make sure the steering wheel was straight I finally came up with this method.. measured the distance to the dash on both sides of the rule.
Clears the brake pedal with about 1/2 space... I might trim the pillow block some more; however, the pedal has no side to side play, so should be fine.
