There are lots of threads here about people getting the wrong water pump, GMB no longer in production, oddball combos of engine/fan/radiator, etc. but I couldn't find anything about a DIY water pump rebuild.

Is that something that any of you have done or is it one of those things that's possible but definitely not worth the hassle?

For reference, I have a '68 F145 which I believe has the original/correct radiator and water pump.

I’m going to have this guy rebuild mine. He has a lathe and resurfaces, changes out seals, bearings, gaskets etc. I found him on eBay.

I think it could done if you can find the parts, bearing/bushing/seals. Then it can also be an issue meeting the minimum order from the place that has the parts and shipping. I have seen where the part is a buck but they want ten to send it too you.

Next option is rob the parts from a similar working unit. The outer casting's usually vary much more than the guts.

This why I encourage folks to take free broken stuff apart. Seeing how stuff works and is put together is way more entertaining/useful than almost anything on the boob tube. Learning the "feel" of a spring loaded ball detent before stuff goes flying is an acquired skill.

Sometimes I take on projects for people and tell them its broke now, I might be able to fix it or it could be really broken when I'm done.

There is a very hard to find water pump for the early F135 that was replaced in late 67 for the 68 model year. The replacement pump was used for decades. Do you have a long ass coolant pipe or the one that is about 6 inches long? If it's the latter, I am pretty sure it is still available from Mr T and definately from one of the many vendors on here. I haven't seen anyone rebuild one of these and I suppose you could but I wouldn't bother and just get a new OEM one. The former is NLA and there are some threads on rebuilding it with a *gasp* Jeep rebuild kit.

I don't think mine is hard to come by and it's not super expensive compared to many of the parts for our beloved steeds...
