Hello all again.

I was following dixie_cragger's thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/262624-how-replace-distributor-o-ring.html for the job.

I took out the dizzy and changed the o-ring. I put the crank to 0 before I disassemble. What I didn't pay attention was that the TIP of the ROTOR was NOT at 11 o'clock like the tread said. The smooth end of the rotor was at 11 o'clock instead. (see pic below)

So now when I line up the protrusion and the groove on the dizzy and put the dizzy back on. The tip of the rotor is now pointing to 11 oclock. I need to have the rotor pointing at the same degree right? What do I need to do now?

You need to pull the distributor and rotate it 180°. The crankshaft can be set to 0 twice while the camshaft (which drives the distributor) only rotates once.

Thanks! I was thinking about that. And I just line up the grooves and it should pop back in with the correct timing? Or should I attempt to put the dizzy back so my rotor is pointing where it was before. (trial and error)

You need to get it back in the same position, otherwise the engine will not run properly, if at all.

Ok got the rotor back in the same position. I played around a few degrees to the left and right and it's obvious that I got it back in the same position. Thanks.

The dizzy O-ring sits in the head and is exposed to hot engine oil, the Toyota part appears to be made out of a heat resistant rubber (brown).
