Hey Benc, now that the bumper is built, can you let me know how much it weighs (with & w/o swingouts)? I'm trying to calculate the incremental weight in comparison to my current bumper + hitch. Thanks!
The bumper is about 130lbs and the tire swing is about 40lbs.
I believe there will be about 70-80lbs removed.

It's all coated and mounted!
Here are a few pics.
Will get some better pics tomorrow.

Looks great benc. With the high lift jack on is most of the driver side tail ligh covered up or is it just the angle of the pic?

It is covered a little but the pic makes it look worse than it is.

What's the word on that latch in terms of rust risk being exposed like that? Is it grade 8 with stainless hardware?

Looking forward to installing this beauty! Wish I was in the top 10 instead of sitting at #15 :(

Only time will tell but it is gold zinc with stainless hardware,
they do have a lifetime warranty and are very easily replaced if ever needed. I spoke with the makers of the latch to see how long this latch has been around and how it's held up and he said with the 20 years they have been making this particular latch he was aware of no issues.
I do think the owners will want to lube it periodically as you would with any moving part exposed to the elements.
For the release and linkage nylon washers are used on all moving parts so no metal to metal contact, the action on the release is very smooth!

Your #15 for now but it seams the list may shrink a bit after the price announcement ;)
The first ten will take a bit to get together but I think once I have a good process and get my jigs all dialed in production should go much quicker.

I figured if rust were an issue after several years it could just be replaced.

I won't complain if I move up the list but am surprised if people no longer want this based on $$$. IMO, a 10-20% increase in price over other options (depending on cost of 2nd swingout) is worth it for the form and function gains.

Awesome final product!

I hope a bunch of people drop out. But I'm figuring that being where I am on the list I will actually have the money when it comes time for mine. I will probably be the one dummy rolling a stock height cruiser with a sweet ass rear bumper! I'm going to end up going backwards from the normal front bumper first format.

Again @benc you nailed it! Looks great coated!
Good thing to do so people have a better idea of options would be remove jack mount for some good pics (since it limits the spare adjustability) and shoot a few photos with the tire at both most high and lower mount options and another on center. I believe that would help most to make decisions between which side to have it as well as what else they want to cram on the back and still have (or relocate) things like camera, plate, brake/reverse lights and so on! Maybe roof mount your high lift for the sake of weight saving and the tail light as well.

Once again, phenomenal work benc!!!
I would like to know how this design would handle rough roads in regards to potential rattling, would you mind posting a video addressing that?

How does it do with slamming it shut with similar force you'd do with a car door?
It takes a little more more force as you are shutting against the gas spring but not bad.

I think he wants to know what happens when you slam it like a door.

Any play in the latch? Can you post a video as you slam it shut, and also when you try to wiggle the spare?

I have been on some pretty rough roads with very little movement and no rattles. There is a rubber bump stop on the corner and spacers that set the preload on the latch. This keeps it rattle free.

There is a little play in the latch that is taken up by the bump stop, very similar to a car door or tailgate. There is movement in the tire if you shake on it but no more than you would get with any other bumper, I have done the shake test side by side with a 4x4labs bumper and had very similar movement, most of the movement is flex in the frame moving independently of the body. There is less movement when driving on rough roads that I would get on my other bumper with 4x4labs swing arms.

I am so still in!

I believe there will be about 70-80lbs removed.
70 - 80 lbs removed from factory weight? And that's at 170 lbs (130 lbs + 40 lbs) for the dissent bumper? Never known the current weight of my bumper - it's a stock bumper with a hitch too. Shaving off my original weight would be a greater plus if that's the case but not the ultimate requirement. Bumper is still awesome.
