One thing you guys already on the list can do is maybe get the main bumper with the brackets already welded there, take a breather then come back and order the swing(s)! I know it will mean dealing with a loose spare but you do what you gotta do to make things work! Just my point of view from a currently empty pocket with the wish to jump on the list! :)

The price is about what I'd expect. Everything is laser cut and bent, all that fitting and burning time, and all the hardware cost really add up quickly.

Will a passenger side tire carrier/swingout is an option? I have a slight driver side lean that I'd like to compensate for ;)
Shouldn't be an issue, all the parts would be the same I would just have to reverse the bends.

Ben, will you please start a "dissent REAR bumper PIC thread" showing the final iteration? this thread has gotten fairly long and there are so many versions to go back through it might give a good starting point (for marketing too) to see how it looks from a number of angles - i know you've got those side bars on there, but would really like to see the actual final production bumper. I really love the front we have and like i told you, after a collision i'm in the market for a rear now. just want to be able to show Mrs. Dutch.

also, i'll second the right swing for the tire. ours has a slight DS lean as well plus if parking on the side of the road or curbside, swinging to the PS is typically downhill, assisting even further on opening, and putting less stress on the actuator

I have some slots saved for pics on the first page, soon as I have more pics of the final product I will get them posted.

As for the passenger side swing out, I guess it's personal preference but I prefer keeping it on the drivers side for visibility,
The gas springs have no issues opening up hill and when open the tire doesn't stick out much if any further than the mirrors.
With it on the passenger side you virtually loose all visibility out the back window, on drivers side you retain the visibility when you look over your shoulder. To me this was important for dd dutys and for the wife was a must.
The only advantage I see to it being on the passenger side would be weight distribution.

makes sense. didn't think about it that way. visibility is paramount since it's a DD and see's the carpool line since we have little ones.

This thread has been thoroughly enjoyable to read and watch progress!
I would absolutely love to be the first Aussie rocking this front and rear combo!..unfortunately with the dollar and freight I could probably buy a new 100 series for the cost!

I would love to suggest that when you get this badboy back from powdercoater it would be great to see a quick video of the slam latch in action...this will really highlight how far this bumper is above its competition in terms of useability and aesthetics.

I"ll keep drooling and dreaming...one day.. Keep up the great work!! and just saying that anyone that could fill a shipping container with these and send them over for a reasonable price would sell the lot before they landed I reckon!

Yeah, a video would be cool and I will likley do an installation video as well. I tried to post a video with my phone of the operation of the swing arm but I guess I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post a video :(

Looks like the powder will be done tomorrow so I will have some pics of the final product coated and installed.
I talked to the powder coater today to see how it went with all the crevices and he said there were no issues getting it coated well, the center was a little tough but not bad.

Will you be able to offer a version that is powder coated?

I can't see s*** out of that little window when looking over my shoulder unless it's something tall and far away from the truck. Most of the time it's blocked by the stroller or gear that's sitting high on top of my drawer system anyway. In regards to DD visibility, I tend to use my rear view camera, all the mirrors, and the two rear passenger windows to slowly back out of a parking spot.

So yes, I agree that it is personal preference.

I mostly use my mirrors but the wife is more comfortable looking over here shoulder while merging onto the freeway or changing lanes. I think to achieve the least intrusive tire carrier for dd dutys and one the wife will approve of drivers side is best, if you think about most bumpers over seas have the tire on the righ which is the drivers side to them. I believe visibility is the main reason.
Again personal preference but something to think of before the decision is made on which side to have the tire.

A friend of mine and I built a bunch of stuff for my Grand Wagoneer (roof rack, winch bumper, integrated sliders... rear bumper with swing-out).

When it was all done, and I backed out of the shop - I looked over my shoulder and said "$*@&!" He said "What?!" I said "We put the swing-out on the wrong $@*&ing side. I can't see $*#@". He said "Huh... yeah, I guess it would better on the driver side. Next time"

if you still have my email, would you please send me the video? a) to show my wife so she can see how easy it is to use since it's going on hers and b) i can probably get it to post up here.

Absolutely, and there are also dual tire carriers which block everything. If you want to make the argument of what's best for a DD, a lot of people would say a swing out tire carrier on any side (and rolling on tires that are too big to fit a similarly sized spare beneath the truck for that matter) would not be best for a DD.

Again, I agree with you that it's personal preference. But since you said you'd be offering a passenger side option, it's a non-issue.

No argument, just want people to weigh the pros and cons to both before making the decision,

Hey Benc, now that the bumper is built, can you let me know how much it weighs (with & w/o swingouts)? I'm trying to calculate the incremental weight in comparison to my current bumper + hitch. Thanks!

I would prefer the spare on the drivers side. IMO, the passenger rear corner is a notorious blind spot already. Putting your spare in that spot creates an even bigger blind spot.

Very good observation.

I'll try and get another quick video tomorrow and get it to you.
