Dissent offroad modular front bumper

Mine got installed last weekend. Install wasn't that bad, but it was 110 degrees out so @Somebodyelse5 and I had to repeat a few steps, most likely because of heat exhaustion  Really tho, the PDF install instructions helped and its all you need, but if the next time Ben installed one he took some new pics and wrote it up, it probably would have cut an hour off our time. All in all not a big deal and I think the complaints are overblown. The rear is definitely more complicated but for some reason went smoother for us, haha.

Thats my 2 cents.... and I doubt its even worth that.

Thanks again to @Somebodyelse5. This install is a 2 person job, and I couldn't have done it without him!

Also, thanks to @ibrahim83. I mounted my Smittybilt controller just like you did, and even though I wasnt really sure if it was going to work (so I stared at it for a while), I trusted that you had done it and that was good enough for me, haha!

On to the pics:

What's that plug/rubber cap thing in the opening of the bumper on the passenger side?

Looks like a cleverly placed control box for the winch.

@atnolan94 that is exactly what it is. Again, cannot overstate how well this bumper is engineered from both a form and functional standpoint. Everything has just the right amount of room to access things and everything is wildly robust in terms of material quality.

The plug is for the wired winch controller. @benc fabricated a winch control box mount to replace the one that comes in the box so it fits perfectly in the Dissent bumper. The winch still has a wireless remote as well.

@Brent Trudo, total time to install was a full day, maybe a little longer. I had to make a few runs to the store and am a slow learner. Mounting the winch and monkying with all the weight added to the time as well. If you're a savvy wrencher, you probably could knock it out in 6-8 hours.

Perusing the thread, but geez it's a hundred pages. Can someone give me the short version - This bumper does require some cutting and grinding, right? And once installed, you cannot reinstall the factory front bumper??

Correctly just cut off the front ends of the frame rails. You can always re weld them if you ever go back to oem bumper. It why would you ever do that?

Install instructions can be found in this thread. Skip to page three for the pdf as the pictures in the original posts are dead. Like Kabanstva said, everything is reversible except the cutting off the frame bumper bracket. The install isn't permanent and you could always pull it off and put it on another truck but you'd have to put some work in to return the vehicle to a stock bumper.

Thanks guys.

Yeah.... So, if this comes off passive aggressive, I promise I do not mean it that way, but have you installed one?

I guess you could figure out a way to do it yourself. But having more than 2 hands was huge, and I didnt want to deal with tackling it alone.

Haha, I dont see the problem!

Thanks man, I'm really happy with how it looks. It honestly surpassed my expectations.

Just finished install of mine this weekend with a buddy. Agreed 100%. While perhaps possible by yourself, mounting up the center section with a winch (HEAVY) and setting the bull bar down without whacking a fender would be very tough with one person. Two people is a huge advantage and if you ask me, a requirement for a couple steps.

Still need to finish up wiring the lights (forgot about a load resistor) and winch.

Really love this thing. Just beautiful craftsmanship and design. It's amazing it all bolts together so smoothly and really shows how seriously Ben takes his work. It would be very easy for things to get askew during install if the parts weren't so accurately made.

For my overall alignment I went "in" as far as I could before hitting some OEM weld beads on the frame and did not use any shims. It's "high and tight".

Your fear is well founded...

There should be a bracket that @benc included in the kit. Mounts inside as depicted above.

Somewhat of a follow-up from the front bumper install but I finally figured out (hopefully) a way to wire a battery cut off switch for the winch. Rather than hard wiring the winch to the battery, I ran it through a 600A cont / 900A 5 min switch (Blue Sea 3000). Normally it's off but if I need it, I can pop the hood, switch it on then use either the wireless or the wired remote.

It's embassingly crude and may or may not have included a few "extra" pieces that probably weren't supposed to be extra but so far so good!

Interested in this bumper but I have a question

I have an LX but I prefer the look of the full LC bull bar. Is there any way to make that work even if it means a bit of modification on my end?

And if so has anyone done it / have pics?

This has been asked a few times in this thread (including by myself). It is the bottom of the grill that catches the bullbar. @diego355 has modded his LX grill to accommodate an LC bullbar bumper, pulling the grill inward slightly.

Check out the front LX grills by @kelly saad, he has a model that seperates the grill from hood and will allow you to run the LC bars on an LX.
