I got creative with mine and installed the solenoid using one bracket closer to the front of the car. The button and plug are facing the passenger side and it's tilted a bit but I don't care as long as it's in the bumper and fixed in place. I'll snap some pictures tomorrow to show what i did.

Also using a 12k x2o.
That would be appreciated, I have to do the same install here shortly.

Yeah same here. 12k x2o does NOT fit even with the side mounting bracket. Mine is just wedged to the side of the winch and I'll throw a zip tie around it. It was somewhat the icing on the cake of what turned out to be a nightmare install.
What made the install a nightmare, if you don't mind me asking.

Also, the design did change a little, but when I talked to Ben he didn't think it would effect the fitment of the x20.

Instead of using the two bars on the solenoid box, you'll end up using one.

The way it's designed, you have two bars, front and back, that bolt into the solenoid box via 4 screws. What you'll have to do is not use the back bar and instead move the solenoid forward and mount it using the back set of screws, then bend the solenoid box down to clear the bumper.

It's a very tight fit, and a little crooked, but you can access the switch and plug Port without having to orient them forward like some people do and exposing them to the elements and blasting them with road debris.

Oh, and put a dab of dielectric grease into the port as i have read reports of corrosion at the pins.

Good luck!

First off UPS sucks and the bumper isn't packaged well so it showed up with a bent tab on the center section that bolts into the frame bolts. I put the frame brackets on and then bolted the center section in, but couldn't get the whole thing back off the frame horns. Then had to unbolt everything, remove the center section on the frame brackets. Then back together again to shim the bumper. Then add the fact that the one winch that this almost 100 page thread said would fit doesn't so it was just A LOT of on and off with the center section with rubber hammers and I messed up my new powder coat pretty good between the center and frame brackets. I had to notch part of the center trim support as well. Then... add in the fact Ben provides zero instructions and the instructions on this thread aren't super current or complete makes the install not ideal. I have one side of the bumper that needs to be shimmed more because last weekend's trip it was making connect with my body and the thought of going through that again sucks.

All that said the bumper itself is amazing quality and I think its the best looking bumper on the market. I just wish for the price point the bumper would have been packaged better (ask Slee for some pointers) and it would have came with ANY f**king instructions. Some of us have young kids/work long hours and don't have time to sort out a bag of hardware to figure out what goes where. I ended up calling Ben 4 times and he answered all 3 of the times and was very helpful, the last time I called about the winch not fitting I left a message and didn't hear back. I really wish I wouldn't have got the "Gen 2" bumper and had an easy install like everyone else on this thread. To end with some praise for Ben, his skid plates are a work of art! My install experience with them was perfect and easy, wish I could say the same about this bumper.

For those that installed the new all aluminum front bumper. Did you use the same instructions as the ones posted for the older steel bumper?

Is there anything different for installing the aluminum vs. steel bumper?

Everybody needs to take notes on how slee packs their products. Nobody comes close. I think they can drop ship them from an airplane and they'll be good.

For the record, i have the first version with the slanted fairlead opening.

Thanks bud. Tough to tell exactly what's going on here but I think I get the gist of it.

I thought that it was designed around the high end Warns.

@ibrahim83 has the old design, so I'm going to drop @benc an email. When we discussed the bumper purchase he said the x20 would fit.

If you go back in this thread the first winch fitted for it was the x2o and many people have done the x2o 12k with no issues. Sounds like he changed the design and didn't have a x2o handy to test and guessed it would fit. It doesn't without the box being relocated, which is completely fine but it would have been nice knowing that going in so I didn't put it on and off a couple times thinking I was doing something wrong. Lack of documentation can be death to a great product.

I'm sorry, the winch went in after about 10 hours of work. It was dark and i was tired.

See those two silver screws on the bottom of the solenoid box? Those normally have a black bracket going across and into the front hole on the drum. I'm not using them anymore, instead, i used the rear two screws with the front bracket screwed into the front hole on the drum.

I wish i took pictures as i was installing it . I'm sorry.

No apologies necessary. I appreciate you posting it and helping!!

Sorry you had so many issues.
I always have said that the bumper will fit most non integrated 8-12k winches, I also say most will require relocation of the control box.
There is no company that can offer relocation kits for every winch model. The x20 happens to be one that the control box can fit in the bumper if you fudge the mounts a bit. It also fits behind the grill.
Literally the only thing that changed with the bumper is the fairlead is recessed, the dimensions of the center are the exact same.
Yes the installation instructions are a bit dated but really nothing has changed as far as installation goes.
It is common for there to be more shims on one side than the other to level out the bumper to the body. It best to have this dialed on the first test fit.
I can understand your frustration however I do find this post a bit odd, as you said we talked multiple times, I answered all your questions, we talked about the damage and I said to let me know if there was any issue and you never once expressed any frustrations to me over the phone? I also made clear that o have not fitted the x20 winch to the redesign bumper yet but said i didn’t see any issues.
Worst case the control box would need relocation like most other winches.
As for packing,
The bumpers are packed extremely well for a palletized shipment. We bolt, screw and strap to the pallet. A one piece bumper is much easier to package than the modular bumper.
A custom foam Encased box would be ideal but we are not shipping the quantity to make this a worthwhile investment at this time. We would literally be looking at about $200 a bumper just in materials that would have to be passed on to the consumer.

Thanks @benc for posting.

Fwiw, I had no issues with the packaging of my bumper. I thought it worked well, especially given the number of parts.

🙋‍♂️ I would like to volunteer my rig for an updated front bumper install thread...

Thanks addressing it.

I completely agree and understand that you can't make a bumper for every winch and most, if not all will need to be relocated. It was more so that everyone on this thread seemed to install it no problem and mine wouldn't fit at all so I kept taking it off and on trying to see what I was doing wrong.

My post isn't odd because we talked before I reached peak frustration and I didn't have anymore questions at that point, as it was clear what needed to be done. I wasn't going to call you just to complain. I was just over it and needed to move on. Maybe my center section was more bent/damage that we thought? It simply didn't fit in the frame brackets well. Once you put the center section in and bolt it to the brackets with the allen bolts you can't get it off the frame horns even with 3 guys pulling on it.

Honestly the single thing that would have really changed the entire experience for me was good well thought out documentation. First page a hardware list so you know right away if you are missing anything. A guide explaining what each piece is for and some disclaimers and tips on install. I've done way more difficult projects on my land cruiser that were much easier because someone on here wrote great documentation.

I don't regret the bumper and would buy it all over again. You make a great product and your support is honest and responsive. I recommend it to anyone in the market. I just simply wasn't prepared for the time and frustration. I was thinking I could throw it on in a couple hours max. Like I said I did the skid plates by myself in maybe an hour and they are one of the most well thought out products I've ever seen in this industry. I actually had fun installing those.

Thanks @benc for posting.

Neither do i. The main issue is with the way ups trashes them. I had damage on my skids and missing parts, and that wasn't Ben's fault.

I do see he's using fastneal so that's an improvement.

I don't think that's an issue with the damages to your bumper, that's how mine is as well. It's built to go on piece by piece, not as a whole unit like most bumpers.

I tried doing that when i installed the winch, we managed to take it off but i had to remove a wing and frame mount before i could put it back.

Yes, instructions aren't there, but after doing it so many times i figured out that the gold bolts go into the frame and are clear, the the shortest ones go on top where the stinger or plates go, the medium ones go inside the center, and the longest ones go up front on the end caps.

Once you lay them out and do a count, it's pretty easy.

What i did do is replace the bolts with stainless button bolts for a cleaner look. I think Ben used to supply them on the first run of bumpers.

Somehow UPS manages to destroy pallets I kid you not my pallet didn't even make it. It was destroyed/lost during delivery and they just threw all the parts in a box along with a loose piece in the truck. I called Ben and he told me piece by piece that should be accounted for (he has them memorized) lucky everything was there. Ben stood by it even when it wasn't his fault.

Also this was the rear bumper, even with out instructions if you lay all the pieces out in order they make sense on their own. They speak to you if you will. It really does help.
