Is there really one better than another? I had a miller elite and worked great. I used someone's helmet when welding my rollcage and it sucked, but it had no name. I could see anything. My two buddies have the speedglas.

So for those that weld a lot, does one company make a better helmet than another?

Its all preference, I have this one... I cant seem to lay a good bead without it on anymore. The clarity is amazing. Ive never welded with a speedglas, but millers are the best helmet ive welded with.

Partial to Miller

I have the Miller digital elite.
I have used the 150.00 jackson (we have it at work)
and I seem to get a head ache with it. Like it dont darken fast enough.
Never have that issue with my Miller.
Day and night fit and finish is top notch on the miller.
Dont be shy. Big blue all the way. :)

Good Luck. Speedglass is a respectable Quality Player in the welding helmet arena. I wouldnt be afraid of em. Just have experience using the other and I am more than happy

I'm kicking around the same issues. I've been using an old helmet a good friend gave me, but want to upgrade too. I've never been big on the camo stuff but I do like that particular Miller helmet - hey can you go deer hunting in grind mode with that? :grinpimp:

I wanted to try the Speedglass but everything I buy Miller seems so well made and to just work so well - even their gloves seem much higher quality. So I'll probably get the Miller Elite (in black though-no paint job). And the Speedglass people have so many models, different window sizes, etc. that it gets confusing trying to choose one. IMHO (with lack of much experience) - Dirtsquirt is right on target with the "Big Blue" thing.

I've got a Speedglas and have been very happy with it. I don't recall the model but it's a 9xxx series with the small window because why would you really ever need a 4x6 window? I've tried a buddy's Miller Elite and it worked well. I would say purchase whichever one you can get a better deal as they are both great.

Both are good. I've been using a Miller Big Window Elite for several years now and have no complaints.

I've used the Miller and now own a Speedglas. It was an earlier Miller with the #8 Dale Ernhardt Jr. graphic. Miller replaced the lens assembly once as it started to act really irratic. The replacement worked for a year or so but then the little metal piece (flat spring like) started to fatigue and would not hold the battery into contact with the contacts. After I pulled it out a couple of time is worked ok but it became a pain in the ass as the spring backed off yet again. I eventually threw the helmet across the shop and bought a Speedglas. I love it and will not buy anything else again. I may upgrade to the one with the respirator some day however.

HTH,
Bill

I have a Miller Elite that I've been using for a couple of years and have no problems with it. It seems to darken fast and is light enough not to weigh you down. I've never used a Speedglas so I don't have that to compare it to. If I was to buy another one today, I'd get another Miller elite.

I'd look at the Jackson Nexgen helmets too. I prefer the tint color of the lenses on the Nexgen.
Many people complain about the Jackson head gear not being as good as a Miller.
