@roma042987 has done a few in 40s. He has some threads on it as well. He is a great resource!!

I am not going to say it is "easy" to stuff a 3B into a 1974 chassis. Unless you can source a solid/good parking brake style pre 1981 transmission 4sp it will get harder. Split case transmissions 1981 and later like 'gimme a 60' used do not commonly have parking brake provisions. So what is solution? Frame crossover tube may also cause a conflict.
The 3B is short and it might be possible to move the engine system forward giving a better rear driveline length but a 5 speed (H55) yields a 18/19" rear driveline in F series installs.
Then you have airbox, vacuum, PS, wire systems and alternator. Don't try to use original 40 series parts as most are long out of production.

Again, not easy like a 60/70 series that were always set up for 5 speed installs.

Agreed. Helping my uncle swap a 3B into his 77 FJ40. The axle e brake thing is a pain. Looks like we are shortening a FJ60 axle.

Other than that the rest of it is easy enough to fight your way though. A 3B into a FJ62 isn’t exactly plug and play. The 62 doesn’t have much in common with a BJ60.

Could you please be more specific about this problem I am in process of the swap, removing 1F from the 1974,FJ40 frame and want to install 3B in it,it will be great if someone have solutions this axle E brake thing.

Thanks for a heads up, I think I should post a picture of my 3B engine and transmission i am not sure if it does have parking brake thing.

The first picture is the transmission with 3B engine which i want to put in,2nd picture is the transmission which is already in,I noticed the cross member is rounded so it is not in the way to install long transmission, this is thinking not sure.

That first picture is not a 3B engine, the transmission does not look familiar either and the transfer looks like it's from a Hilux or light duty Land Cruiser. Where did it come from? Looks like it might be an L or early 2L engine.

I'm with you on this one.. G52 transmission maybe.. and definitely not a 3B engine.

Thanks guys I got these two engines and transmissions with the two land cruisers I bought ,both vehicles have engines in them one is 1974 fj40 other one is 1981 bj40,the guy who sold me all these told me both engines and transmission are from bj42 .

The last picture shows a 3B. The first two are either an L (2.2l) or pre-1989 2L (2.4l). The third picture I don't recognise but look like an H41 which would fit with a BJ42 and 3B.

Are these two engines any good, can I install one of them on my 1974 fj40, any suggestions please.
It's not a great choice, they had maybe 60 to 80 hp when new, and those engines don't exactly look like low mileage units removed from a wreck. But if it's all you've got...

But they will be a big downgrade in power compared to a 6 cylinder petrol. Far better economy of course.
