Would like to oil change my 80's 1hz motor. It's at 718 k km's.

I have up to now used Castrol Delo 400 multigrade but apparently that product doesn't exist anymore (here in Australia at least).

Allegedly something related to Caltex losing it's brand license from Chevron and having to re-brand back to the old Ampol name.

People are telling me that the Delo line is now made by Mobil instead and called 'Delvac'.

I think I might have enough Delo 400 left to do the oil change - it requires 10 L. Then I have no spare oil though.

Ok I've done the oil/filter change. I had just under 9L of remaining Delo 400 multigrade and my 20 L drum is now empty. Unless I discover some oldstock Delo 400 anywhere I need to change the oil I use.

As I have no spare oil, what is compatible with Delo 400? I've used Penrite (Australian brand) HPR-15 in the past long before I discovered Delo 400 and that's still made though it's 15w-50 not 15w-40. Can oils from different suppliers be intermixed at all?

Thanks. Is it safe to mix oils from different makers if the specs are the same/similar or would that be likely to cause problems? I'm sure the 1hz will be fine with just under 9 L of new oil.

No problems at all mixing 154W40's from different brands.

The 1HZ would be fine with olive oil in the crankcase. It's a low stress application with no special needs.

Mobil Delvac is not the same as Delo, but it's a good oil for these old trucks. I even run it in my 1FZ

Thanks - I don't know enough about oils and oil chemistry hence the questions.

Can a 15w-50 oil mix ok with a 15w-40 spec one just out of interest?

Yeah no problem. Oils are made to mix because you never start with a clean and dry engine.

We can still buy delo here in NZ I figured for sure it would still be available in aus

Nice you can still get it there. It's not been available here for a while. A 200 L drum would rust out before I could do 20 oil/filter changes. 8-) My last drum of it purchased a few years back was a 20 L
