Hi Dazed,

I used a Rudy's kit on my first engine and it was very high quality and the engine has been running great for 19K miles.

I don't remember seeing any numbers on my lifters on either engine. What year is your engine out of? Maybe it was an early sizing number. Are they all the same #?

Dont know, the rocker arms have the following labels, in no order, what so ever:
D,-,-,O,-,U,M,H
I did not keep them in order. Any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about the rocker arms. They all fit onto the same shaft and they are adjustable so I don't think they are that critical as long as you adjust them correctly when you put them back together.

That was my thought, but was wanted to check. I have a bunch more questions on my thread over at 4btswaps. If you can help answer them, it would be very helpful!

Don, Was wondering how you did the throttle cabe from the LC to the 4BD1? Aslo, how did you run the FJ60/62 cable for the shut down lever? Some good close up pictures would be great and any parts that you used. Fixing to get in the heart of the build now. Ordered the adapter kit from Dustin at Allamaras Machining last week and should be here in a few days. Starting to get really excited !!!!!

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I used a gas pedal and throttle cable from an FJ62. I had to make a little bracket for the gas pedal to mount to and the throttle cable fits right up to the Isuzu linkage perfectly and the length is just right as well. For the shutdown lever I used the hood latch cable from the FJ62 and I had to modify the shutdown lever a little by flattening out the top bar on it so it was a little tighter due to the smaller diameter cable of the hood latch cable. I just used a steel cable mount to attach it to the Isuzu shutdown bracket that mounts to the intake manifold and it has worked great for two years now.

Hope that helps,

Don

Yes sir, thank you. Have you ever thought about making the snorkels and selling them? I would be interested in buying one if you did. Thanks again for a great write up.

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the the kind words and the interest in the snorkel but realistically they would cost way too much. That thing took me a bunch of hours to finish and I don't know if I will make another for my 40 or not. I may just buy a Safari one if I have the funds.

Thanks,

Don

Don,
Thats cool. I understand putting in a lot of time on something and once you are done not wanting to do it again. Did a 105 mile bike ride one time and swore I would never do it again. Nothing like making something with your own hands. Thanks and started a build on here and 4BTSwaps.com

Hey Don, could you take some pictures of the block off plate for the oil filter housing. I got the kit from 69Rambler and his block off kit. The only thing I see that might cause a problem is where the line from the oil cooler and the fuel line that was on the bottom part of this old housing. Any help would be great. Thanks Sir.

If you need the pictures right away, go to my swap thread below and look around page 6 or so, and you will find a bunch of pictures of how I did the remote set up. I made my parts, but 60ramblers are basically the same.

Hope it helps.

Doug

Hi Bluehawk,

You'll have to look on Doug's thread because I didn't have to use a block off plate on mine. I have the stock filter housing on both of my trucks.

charcoal canister

Don
Did you remove the charcoal canister or anything else (or add anything) to the fuel system?
thanks
Mitch

Yeah mine had a butchered 350 conversion when I got it and the canister was already gone. If you look on page 4 post 66, you will see the double filter system that I built to remove water and air and particulate from the fuel system. I added an electric fuel pump in between the tank and the filters to assist in the filtration and because the system returns the aerated fuel back to the tank, it needs some pressure on it all the time to assure the lift pump on the injection pump doesn't run out of a fuel supply.

How is your swap coming?

Don

Hi mi new in forum im from Venezuela and im planing on droping the 4bd1t to my 82 fj40 i have 4.11 gears 36 tsl. Hi Murray fj40,

The company is
Allmaras Machine
Beavercreek, OR
503-545-3731
Ask for Dustin

He makes adapters for 4BD1T to H55

Good luck with the swap!

Don

Don, I have the fuel water air seperator that you wrote about (I honestly forgot that it was your thing so I didn't include it.). I'm not sure what the canister does anyway.....

The swap is going slow....the shop where I am working on it is only open when I have to work. The engine has its manifolds and injection pump back on....now onto tubes and more cleaning and painting.

Don
I am working through your filter system and I wanted to make sure that I got it right; is the attached image correct?

Also, how do you have the pump electrically setup? I understand the momentary switch, but how does it make sure there isnt too much fuel being pumped? Is that taken care of by the return out of the water separator and the engine fuel pump limits the flow?

thanks
Mitch

Hi Mitch,

You are dead on with all your line layouts and the fact that the excess electric pump pressure is just diverted back to the tank through the return line. The only thing that I could add is that I made the inlet and outlet fittings all 1/4" and the return line fitting I made 1/8" to create a positive pressure to the lift pump and a lesser pressure returning to the tank.

The electric pump is wired on its own circuit that comes off the ignition key and the prime button is direct wired to the battery so I can prime anytime whether the ignition is on or off.

Let me know if you need any other info,

Don

Don,

Did you use the stock fuel return line to the tank like I did?

I did not recall you had the inline pump, looks good and makes for a good system.

Doug
