Diehard Platinum battery sale - know of any?

The Optima and Odyssey both use the term "gel cell," but they are AGM batteries.

FWIW, I bought one of the new fancy pants chargers because I've got an old Optima in the faux-lux (which is now starting to fail, it will be replaced with a diehard platinum), and we've got diehard platinums in two of Dad's trucks. The normal old charger worked, sort of. It wouldn't recover a battery if it gets anything other than a little depleted. If you really kill the battery, you will need to use the new style charger.

You can mount the Diehard Platinum on it's side without a problem.

A few years ago I bought a Sears battery charger. I had an Optima sitting in the backyard. It had been sitting for at least 2 years. I trickle charged the battery back to life and ran the Optima in Da'40 until I decided to install the Platinum. It was still working fine, and was about 8 years old when I traded it in.

Sears.com is currently running a 10% of orders up to $249.99 and 15% off $250+ on orders in the automotive section. Might be a good time to pick up one of these batteries if you're still looking for one.

hey THANKS for the info. I just ordered a battery for a in store pickup, saved $19!!!

You're welcome. I remembered seeing a few threads on Mud where people were looking for these batteries so I figured I'd share the info.

I'd like to order 2 of the group 31 size but they only have one available for in-store pickup. The website is forcing me to go the shipping route which negates the benefit of the sale. Almost $70 to ship the two batteries to me.

I do love that group 31 size and have on installed in the wife's 80. I just ordered a group 35 which will work in tandem with a group 65 in my 80. It was tempting but that 85 pounds makes my back cringe!

Thanks again for the heads up.

No doubt. The group 31 in the 40 uses 4% of it's capacity to glow and start the 3B. The 3B starter probably draws 3 times the juice of the 1FZ on start. It is an impressive battery indeed!!!

Ali,

I bought a Sears DieHard Platinum Marine 34M series battery today (3-26) on sale for a hundred and eighty bucks ($179.99 for those of you in marketing).

Did the sale end already? Bummer.

You know, you could just save the trouble and not even have an ALT in the 40 :D Just charge it up about once a quarter (4x year) with the solar PV array and you're good to go.

Don't know when the sale ends. I didn't know there was a sale. Just took it up to the counter and the guy announced a sale price. They had one left about noon on Friday. Call Sears.

Just another props to these Platinums. I've had both out of the rig for over 2 months and sitting in my shed through the dead of (NM) winter. Threw the marine one in the other day and the sucker started right up. Amazing. Well worth the money IMO.

I mentioned to you in the email that sears.com was having sale. See the info above that Rufus posted. You still got $10 off, so it's better than nothing!
