Later that same evening, I made my way to check it out. He just happen to live on “Junction Road”, about 30 mins from my shop. The seller had owned the truck for a long while and restored it 10 years ago. Since then, it was kept inside hasn’t been used offroad.

I know all about aqualu tubs, but haven’t seen one up close. Let me tell you, it was love at first sight when I laid eyes on this aluminum tub’d 40. I had heart shaped rose colored glasses on when I was looking it over.

The truck has its original drivetrain with 62k miles. It fired right up and sounded real strong. I drove it all of 50 ft before declaring:

“Ill take it”!!!!

The truck is a 74, just like my 55. I’ve had a few 74s, all of which have been great. 74 was the first year for 4 speed, small rear jump seats, seatbelt bar hoop, newer grill and fender emblems rectangle tail lights and a few other upgrades. The 74 F (aka) F.5 is still a 3.9, but has the upgraded oiling of the 2f Head.

First order of buinsess was to get rid of the dual exhaust. It has 2 piece headers and a true dual system straight out the back.

I wanted something a lil quieter so the 2 into 2 Flomaster was swapped for a walker 2 into 1 muffler and then routed through a silencer. The exhaust now exits through one pipe, behind the pass rear tire. Having the exhaust dump on the side really keeps the fumes inhaled to a minimum while driving.

Big thanks to Alan’s. Top tier exhaust work as always.

Nice. I like the Aquala tub as well. Aluminum to me is the way to go long term. Where are your wipers ?

The truck came with a box of its original parts including the wiper arms. They will be making their way back on the rig this weekend.

I’m on the fence. The Mickey Thompson classics are aluminum and fit the “theme” of the rig, but I think some late model 40 wheels in white might look better. What would you run?

Oem wheels fool

What do you think of the white?

I’m thinking a nice set chrome steelies might be “bling bling”. Not sure how I feel about that though.

My neighbor said the white wheels look like “I’m trying too hard” - whatever that means - and said to leave the MT

I like the white, and they would probably look better than chromes with the body color.

What a beauty, congrats! The oem gray steel wheels for that year with the chrome hub caps would look the best (and not look like you are trying too hard!), but that’s just my opinion.

^^^Jen is correct:

1. OE Steelies with caps
2. White OE Wagons
3. Chrome OE Wagons
