My Big Wheel was a fixie. Loved those hard plastic wheels, too. You are nuts. (But that bike is stupidly tan guapo)

My ride last night was a sad boring solo 20 miles of suburban pavement.

When I got back my mid-20s son was there. I convinced him to take a neighborhood spin with me (by telling him there's nothing worse than an out of shape skinny person). Obvs he didn't want to go, so he ****ed with me the whole time. It's kind of the family thing to do. He did it by riding so slowly I don't know how he stayed upright. We did the same 1-mile route i take to walk the dog every night. It took us twice as long as the dog walks! I was so proud 😂 except that he was working the handlebars so much to stay upright that I fear he rubbed all the lugs off of an $85 Maxxis. Dickhead

Fixie Day 2. A little more…. It was only 101* when we started. 😂😂

Speaking of dry heat I was back out in Cortez riding yesterday and it got up to about 91 by early afternoon. Toasty yes but also can find a little reprieve in the shaded spots whereas when you’re someplace humid you really can’t escape the heat unless you just go inside and turn on the AC.
Good point. I've worked outside in low 90's dry heat (Idaho), but it was in the shade. Not uncomfortable or problematic if you remember to drink plenty of water. About the warmest we ever get here is high 70's and of course it's humid.

Rode just about 14 miles this morning. 920+ feet of climbing and really felt good. Did a 30 minute Tabata session on Wednesday, so wasn’t really sure about the legs today. Overall, fine, and fastest pace on this loop this season.

I go out to push the pace each ride and ,so far, it’s working.

Spin on Sunday, ride on Monday.

Really tired of these southern summers, but we do get 8-9 other months of good to great weather here in central NC. I did a 14-miler mostly in the sun Wednesday mid-morning with humidity over 80% and temps around 85*, it was miserable. Went out this morning and did 27 miles - almost entire route in shade, mid-to-upper 70's, yet still 80% humidity. Today's ride was awesome and - dare I say - quite pleasant.

First real fixie ride this evening.

Jenna tuned it up with new tires and a new tension adjuster in the rear. New rear cog as well: 42:17

This is **definitely** interesting. And quite different riding experience. My knees might hate me soon. Riding this style at 50 (with two meniscal surgeries) vs 20 or 30 is definitely a challenge.

At least I didn’t die.

42:17? that'd be tiny!

Did a metric around the valley. Temps at the start were upper 50s. A nice reprieve from the previous few days at 90+ and 25 mph winds (some gusts on Friday were over 50 mph).

Pounded out an 11 miler early this morning. Finished when the temperature was 86*F with 1000% humidity. 😁. Fawk me. Really not too bad in the woods, but there are a few hilly fields in the wide open. Sun doing its job.

Soaked to the skin in sweat, literally dripping off me every where. But didn’t feel weak or heat prostrated, so all was good. ✅👍🏻

Bike dropped in for brake hose trim (only 50mm off, so not a lot - leaving long to clear bar bag) and steerer tube cut down (adding one more spacer to the stack as well).

Should be back at the end of the week.... It does look good though all built up now:
