Got a good ride out on the Gravel bike today; 112km and 1,562m of climbing (all at 1,000-1,400m elevation)

Some bits were brilliant, some a bit sketchy:

And looking the other way, back towards where I'd come from:

The water refill point (thanks wife) is at a disused railway station; depending on the local government elections, there may be a rail trail coming all the way up to here in the next 5 years or so, once everything is sorted.

Refill was at 40km, and then there was another 55km or so up to the next town, where I hit the tar for a good section of road. Could have carried onto the Coast if I'd wanted... only another 199km to go...

I was on that road for about 15km, and then I got back onto dirt roads to drop back to Armidale:

This section is called Green Hills (the names are original...) and is one of the most UK landscapes I've come across whilst in Australia (the other area is between Ebor and Dorrigo, through an area called Deer Vale)

But even the road markers were getting tired...

Genuinely I didn't get lost, but I did end up at Inverness:

You can see the corrugations that are hell on the dirt roads; the tandem drive stock trucks don't turn the corners very well, so they tend to cause the braking, acceleration, and turning ridges - these were a feature for most of this section.

But it is fantastic country out this way:

This is the sign I was hoping for:

It wasn't as hilly as I remembered, but the first section certainly was brakes on, and wrong side of the road because the inside of the corners were so corrugated.

These three photos were all taken at the same spot, and there must have been a house here until recently as there was a (good) mailbox:

and looking the other way:

Oh, and this little wallaby was unconcerned by me taking a photo:

Full ride here:

Flew out to Pittsburgh for a few days and we did a good 20 mile urban ride yesterday around downtown yesterday.
Met up with my girlfriend and her cousin since gf was already here a few days prior. Her cousin set up an Urban ride around the city. What great way to see different parts of Pittsburgh while cycling.

Ride through lots of interesting locations. Like the this street called the color street.

The road the walls and the sitting areas where all just graffiti. Saw few people just snapping pics and hanging out.
Stopped at Penn Brewery to have a beer and see the old building and some of the history of this old brewery.

One of the caves that were used to store their beer here is a fella who has been here for quite some time greeting us.

Spanked out the 8.25 miler at 2024 record pace. Too lazy to check my records from previous years, but all in, I’d say it the fastest or close to it. Bought a new pair of Sidis which could have contributed. Man, I was just putting the power down.

Felt great, and was out early enough to beat the heat.

So cool to see all of the different bikes, terrains, riding styles, experiences people are having with bikes. Super awesome. Seems like what bikes are all about…

Quick one in the AM…

Then to Tucson with Blaire to my friend Megan Dean’s storage unit (she’s a frame/bike builder) and snagged some bits for my SS..

Beno,
After reading your thread on what got you to ride and what you went through.
It inspired me to get on my bike after my health scare back in April. Since then I have lost close to 50 lbs. and has gotten me back on the bike with more motivation not to get the weight I was. I feel lighter and with more energy to enjoy my bike rides.
This thread in itself has pushed me. I feel more and more being able to reach certain milestone.
And yes it is awesome to see people use bikes for what they are intended for.
Awesome! 👏

It's been 8 weeks since my last real bike ride. Besides, a few laps around the neighborhood with the dog and a lot of zwift miles. A pretty painful bicep tendinitis is finally subsiding. Hopefully, I can keep it that way. But, man it felt good to ride some dirt again! A little bit of a mellow trail to ease back into it. Trying not to rush into any big rides-that is mentally a little bit hard though!

Did an 11 miler this morning. Trails are getting wider now as the leaves and vegetation are either falling or dying off. Great fall rides through the Massachusetts woods.

The deer cull stars the first Monday of October through December 31. I’ll need to switch up to some different trails so as not to take an arrow through the boiler room by a hunter mistaking the noise from my tires through the leaves as a running deer.

Hunter orange vest, too. Most likely stick to the major trails, too.

I went out for a ride Wednesday morning, stopped at about 4mi to take a photo and got a bit too close to a fire ant mound. They swarmed my lower left leg, after getting them all off I just went straight home. Holy crap these bites are irritating as f**k, have around 20 welts/blisters.

Like puberty, but the pimples are not on your face. 😆

I found some poison ivy yesterday, so I'm feeling your itches.
