I did a frame off on my 45 about 8 years ago, first week it was running I went wheelin and got stuck in 4 feet of mud! Come to find out the paint wasnt cured yet and the mud left stains in the clear coat!!!Then about a year later I put it on its side!!!!I always told myself that the 45 will someday look the same way when I bought it!!It still looks ok,but I definately built it to be used, and have enjoyed every trip, although in hind sight it would have been nice to enjoy the 10k paint job:doh: for a little while longer!...

hehe yeah it will eventually get scratched, no biggy :D

I will not be rock crawling in it, but it is gonna see trails and brush etc :)
I am gonna take care of it, but it will be used for what it is designed for :)

In 40 more years if my kids want to fix any paint they can :D

.... they made 4 driving...... only cars ;)

Last year I thought about to spray the front bumber on my 43 back in factory greysilver... some weeks later I dented it a little bit ;)....
now the bumber stays ( dent included) in olive 653 I sprayed two and a half decades ago.....
... only a truck with some patina ;)
Cheers
Peter

Perhaps

Running the electric could be done. You would have to be mindful of where things would move and where fasteners are... but why not? Of course you might want to clean out all of the threaded stuff first. But laying in the wires shouldn't interfere.

New harness or old?

Nice :D

Original harness of course, but I am cleaning it up etc :D

Yo' harness

After you check all of the wires, and perhaps unwrap them all, make sure to retape it and add some HD covering to prevent wear and tear. You may wish to check these guys out:

I haven't used them but their rubber grommets and plugs will come in handy if you don't already have some. Parts stores also have grommets. I have not found metric ones though. Sometime I have to pull out a Uni-Bit and open a hole up a fraction so I can get a grommet in.

Happy Wiring!

Awesome work Destin. This thread has been a pleasure to scroll through. I bet your itching to get her fired up and hit the road...:steer:

installed the fron wiring harness and some bits.

Hey, anyone remember the thread with the dash knob restoration?
( coloring the text white etc? )

Looks cool. A comment on dash light bulbs (blinkers, 4wd indicator, etc.) These ground through the frame, I hope you scratched up the paint so they make a good electrical connection. I did not but will be doing so shortly. The "now it works, now it doesn't" is not a fun thing.

As for the thread on knobs. If followed it. Take knob, simple green, wash cloth. Spray knob rub on wash cloth, repeat often. You may want to use a worn out scotch-brite pad if you need to take a lot of crud off. Clean out letters with a pin or other tiny device (dental tools). When plastic is nice and shiny and letters clean go get yourself a paint pen. White perhaps. Shake paint pen, get ball bearing on end wet and write over the letters, filling them in with paint. Wipe very gently, you do not have to get it all off. Let dry, rub off paint on wash cloth.

Wash cloth is on a counter top so you can apply a good deal of pressure to the knob.

Amerauer SP? might have posted the original link.

I just noticed...your power outlet is cracked just like mine. To bad my paint isn't nearly as nice.

I am planning on running a ground wire to all parts. I figure I could get a thing copper sire and just it under each one from the back. I am exposed to a lot of salt air so once I get paint on there last thing I will do is expose some metal. Not that mine will look this good.

hmmm

where would they ground to the frame/?

I did see one ground wire that connects to the body for the rear wiring harness and one for under the dash on the tub...

I have gone through your entire thread and have enjoyed every part of it. Very cool build I can't wait to see it finished.

of all the vehicles that I've take those round "year specific" tags of the firewall data plates, they've all been attached to the screw in the upper right hand corner?

just curious if your was attached to the lower left originally?
