Delancy's NEW 76 PIGGY ???

Running this by the y'all, since I'm too a point that a decision has to be made, order placed, to maintain the timeline.

After many months of consideration and a professional assessment of re-arching, have decided on Alcan's since it seems they're the only resource that claim to be capable of addressing "needs" on this '76 DD and based on a few conversations with Pig owners who are running their products.

What is described to all as the goal:

1. Comfortable on road ride quality.

2. Minimize rake and lean, attempting a level stance.

3. Additional weight above OE being:

100lbs of deadener, ceramic coating, bed liner
90lbs H55/Split Case
20lbs Spare
Nominal increase for front bumper (no winch)
Nominal increase for rear bumper (no swing out)
Nominal decrease on rear for ambi-doors

4. 1.5-2" Lift

5. Provide all bushings, pins, hardware.

6. Durable coating

Knowing nothing about leaf length and it's direct impact on ride quality, I did state that relocating hangers was not an issue, if it's have a direct impact on ride, but was told that it wasn't necessary with custom springs.

Anyhow, the reason for my hesitation to instantly order was a previous statement of Mrs. Delancy's being that she'd appreciate a non-"monster truck" stance, but it's difficult to say how much above it's current stature a 1.5"-2" lift will actually result.

So, guess the question is, assuming Alcan can deliver a leaf that lifts exactly the requested:

With 33s, will a 1.5" to 2" lift put the top of the four around 6' from the ground?

Are the aesthetic gains of the minimal lift with 33s worth lifting? ( I know personal, but I've never seen a Pig at OE height....not seen any but mine in person)

I don't think what you're looking at will be bad, I've got 3" on mine and it's not terrible for the family to get in and out. Another local Mudder Jason has a stock height pig with 31s, a little lift definitely helps the rear departure angle ;-). I'm also adding sliders with a step for the same family concerns, look for pics in my thread soon.

From thread....love the all white Pig, by the way. At times, wish I had held out for one that could be returned to, accurately.

Has [33x10.5 BFGs] the old MAF Safari 4" lift springs with helpers in the back, OME 70 series shocks and beefy shackles.

I've got 3" on mine....

It's difficult to tell in pics how "tall" any of these are, but it looks good, proportionally.

Against better judgement, mostly due to noise concern I've experienced on the other vehicles I have run them on, I'm considering swapping the 33" KM2s that are currently on the '72 to this '76...mostly since the '72 should have 31s, since a "resto".

Guess the poses the question, is 1.5"-2" not enough lift, aesthetically speaking?

The '72 with saggy springs and the 33s I'm looking at swapping to the '76, appears a little disproportionate, but not terribly so...

I've never lifted or jacked with a suspension for looks, so in unfamiliar territory.

I never thought the 80 looked ridiculous, nor cared of it did, but am trying to maintain her attention to the Pigs to ease future conflict....if there's ever a fleet of them.

Saw and like.

Have every intention of sliders (need to add to weight consideration, I guess) as an effort to prevent door dings.

I was adjusting for the notoriously saggy MAF Safari springs, I do have some helper leafs in them ;-) Tucker

Haha. I took the 3" to heart and wasn't discounting.

Wish I could see a non-saggy stock height and 1.5-2" lifted on 33s.

Jacked mine up (31s) in a bay to measure and didn't think to get a good visual.

Justin,

Thanks, but haven't done much, yet. Getting there though.

Was moments away from calling y'all a week ago to see what the schedule was looking like for, at least, minor body work (anything that would make sense to do with the body off the frame) but figured my piss poor planning doesn't constitute an pseudo-emergency for anyone else, plus have no means to transport the shell the 80 miles south to Colorado Springs.

Like the sliders and bumpers on your Pig. Still fabbing ?

Lol. No worries. We are 3 months out right now so our schedules wouldn't work. We are still fabricating. Actually we are about to do another 78 with the same armor as the iron moose. If anyone wants the sane bumpers or sliders. Let's me know we might be able to do a small batch for you all.

Thanks again and keep up the good work

I assumed.

It's never a good taking on work for reactionary accounts. Usually 96% of the headache and 5% of revenue. I understand this, don't want to be that account, and why I started planning four months ago......but plan when to crap.

Posting pics here, since the subject was broached.

Sliders look good.....

I like the corners rear bumper, but need to swing out, nor provisions for.

Front would work for me, with a smaller hoop, no winch tray, not provisions for winch.

Could almost be happy with this...

Hoop

My goal for armor is protecting in the parking lot.

Had thought about attempting to wrap the rear quarter and reinforce the crap out of the wings, same with reinforcing the wings on the front, mostly as added rigidity to a minor mishap, not wheeling.

33x10.5 look too big on a stock height pig.

My '72 with 33x10.5 KM2s and flat leafs.

image-449621438.jpg

Don't think it's horrendous.

Going to pull the new KM2s from the '72 and swap to '76.

I had 31x10.5 on my stock height pig and it looked right,

-
image-1225290324.jpg

Still looks taller than mine with same specs.

-
image-379717282.jpg

then I put some 33x10.5 KM2 on and the wheelwell was full of tire, just looked wrong.

Hmmmm.

So I iput a 1.5 shackle lift on..cheap and easy. Looks so much better.

I'm thinking about the same.

Does that mean you have a title?

The transfer has been approved, paperwork received back from state, so I'll re-register with the corrected VIN, almost a done deal.

For them to release the title, a VIN inspection has to occur, so it'll be awhile before I have the paper copy in my hand, but legally a done deal.

So, it's on like Donkey Kong, not that it wasn't before this latest news.

Aaron with Summit Auto Transport lined up the truck, which happened to be the same driver that hauled the 80 back in 2012.

He picked up Friday, since a Sunday deadline loomed since I initiated talks with Aaron late December/early January, and delivered Saturday at 8am.

No issues with any of my stuff, but driver's Ford died, so Robbie spent some time diagnosing/wrenching on, on his day off, that he wouldn't have been there, except to meet the Pig.

Anyhow, the pistons, rings, rods, camshaft, lifters, bearings and valves had already been received back from cryo, so betting it'll take a couple of days to unpack my carefully packaged and inventoried parts and prepped to pull the 2F, to get it prepped for machining and balancing.

All that'll be used from the 2F is the block and crankshaft, so will have a 2F head and other components available, as well the tranny and TC.

All that isn't on hand, but in the works is the 60 Big Cap dizzy and ign that's at Jim C's.

All that I know I need, or need to order:

Mini truck power steering gear box pedestal
Leafs
Shocks

There are many unknowns, like the exhaust routing as it exits the 3F manifolds, air cleaner for 3F manifolds, radiator, 3FE AC integration....I'm sure more, but don't know it, yet.

That's awesome man! On the 3F exhaust, I just had a local shop make a simple y-pipe for my 3FE swap in the 40, they added O2 bungs as well but you wont need them. If you don't have the stock down pipes Slee and MetricTLC sell the flanges you'll need to mate up to the cast manifolds with stock gaskets.

Question for you, what were you quoted on custom springs from Alcan?

Tucker

I did have the stock 7X, but I couldn't see any means for it to work, and hated to chop it up for the flanges, so it went to another Mudder who had a 3F 60 being imported.

$500 front and $550 rear, including all hardware, bushings, and (if memory serves) UPS freight to Boulder.

I have spoken with them twice, but just submitted their required online form, so now they'll asses an actual total, I'm assuming.

Based on pics, added +1.5".
