So, I am installing a Gamiviti dashboard accessory mount in my 12/79-build 40:

It is held by the two innermost machine screws in the defroster vents under the windshield. I thought that these would have been slot-head or JIS screws, but mine do not appear to be either; they look like they might have socket heads that have been filled in with paint, or maybe just plain round heads and a nut underneath the windshield frame? The hard top is on so I don't want to drop the windshield just to see if that might be the case. Here are photos:

Have you guys with late 40's seen these before, or is this some strange previous owner shenanigans?

They are like push in or pull out type of plastic rivet, The screws had a metal clip that slides over the holes in the frame and the screws thread in to them.

Plastic rivets

I've encountered retaining screws on a 77 w/s frame with plastic vents, and rivets on my 75 40.

OK thanks guys, that is helpful.

Are new rivets still available from Toyota? If not I guess I’ll just use some appropriate-size generic replacement.
