Hey guys, looking to join the club.

I'm trying to decide between a 2013 with 52k miles and a 2016 with 25k miles.
Both vehicles are very clean, no accidents
2013 has had regular maintenance done per Carfax
2016 doesn't show any maintenance history on Carfax but is being sold as Certified Pre-Owned (7yr/120,000 miles limited powertrain warranty)
Both are priced at fair market value

Which one would you choose and why?

Fewer miles in total on the 16' but less per year on the 13'. I'd call the 13' a low mileage vehicle and the 16' is avg for the year.

That said... Go for the 16' unless the difference in price is your mod money.

Wait a couple of months and get a '17 and then wait a few more months for the '18 lol! Jk, the '16 is the way to go just for the updates alone

I'd go for the 16 for the updated interior with all the buttons in the right place, birds eye view camera, better brakes etc etc etc

Check Toyota service history website using the vin# from the 2016 LC.
Track Your Service Records with Your Toyota Owners Account

Like @kreiten mentioned, the 16 has more creatures comfort and the camera views between front and rear and bird view is super convenient daily driving and even better when you are in 4-low gear. Not to mention the it is still under warranty.

What's important to you? Price? Warranty (piece of mind)? Mileage? Mod-ability?

If the warranty matters to you, if the 2013 is being sold at a Toyota dealer you may be able to get the dealer to do it CPO. If it's at a non-Toyota dealer than you'd have to buy an extended warranty.

If you have plans to mod it, the 2016 is a bit more limited - the front and rear bumpers are slightly different, the front quarter panels where you'd mount a snorkel flush are slightly different, the diff carrier is different and won't fit the current lockers available, etc so not all aftermarket parts will work yet.

In terms of mileage, other than the warranty there's little difference between 25k and 52k on one of these trucks. I wouldn't sweat the maintenance history on the 2016 - if the owner took it to a local shop for oil changes those won't show up in the service history. At 25k there's really no other maintenance required yet, save for maybe an air filter.

As far as price goes, some of the sites like cargurus.com will compare other similar vehicles against year/price/mileage and you can see if the truck is over or under-priced relative to the rest of the market. The 2016 will take more depreciation hit, but whether you care about that depends on your financial situation and how long you plan to keep the vehicle.

Personally, I can't see why to spend more money on a newer LC other than rust. None of the upgraded features are worth extra thousands of dollars. I used to think lower mileage was worth the money but toyota did make the LC relatively bulletproof from my experience.

To me it would mainly depend if I wanted the color combinations or exterior look of the 2016+. And I agree there's really minimal difference between 25k and 52k miles on a 200. But the logical way to think about this is "what are you willing to pay per year for LC ownership?" Then you can decide if the additional depreciation you'll eat over the expected life of ownership is worth it.

Some folks around here trade their vehicles every few years, while others own them for decades.

Maybe consider this rationale...

What sweet MODS could you add to the 13...for the added cost of the 16?

The choice turns into:

2013 with bumpers, winch, lift, tires, sliders & lights...

vs.

Stock 16.

To me, that would be an easy choice. 13+mods all day long.

agreed ..... 13' modded to the hilt for most of what a 16- 17' cost.... although I do covet the baseball leather and better screen interface..

but for the delta .... find a clean pre-facelift rig.

One does not make this thread without asking prices.

LOL, you can't lose OP! But I'd do the '16 myself. I can pinch pennies and build at my leisure. I can't add a huge in-dash nav screen & 360 birds eye view too easily though down the road. Strictly a personal preference situation though.
