After an attempt to Civilize my cruiser for more road worthiness, less noise, and more comfort, I am ready to say hell with it.

After throwing some cash at it for new BFG 33/10.50 A/T's, trying various electric fans, (less noise/ minimal success), thinner wheel spacers in the front (aesthetics purposes, due to the skinny tires), I'm no more satisfied than before. On top of all this the truck seems to have lost most of its character.

In short, I guess it is what it is, a primitive tractor powered old school utilitarian type vehicle. I've got to admit that those attributes do have a bit of appeal though.

I think I'm going back to the old setup so I can start enjoying my rig again. Does anybody else relate to this line of thinking?

Sort of. The more junk I took off my 60, the more I liked it. Mostly it was the desmog and the addition of a Weber before I went over to the Dark Side (Chevy V8). It was super clean and simple after that and easy to work on. I never had to wonder which of the 29 sensors and widgets was the cause of a problem. Oh, and it ran better. Your situation is different because you have a 62, but for what it's worth...

I'm with you akarilo. If you put too much modern stuff on the vehicles it takes away the nostalga. When i was in high school I had an 88 4Runner stick. Now I have an 88 FJ62. I love the old body styles and it brings me back to the good ole days. I will never put any chrome on it and I will black out every piece of chrome I get my hands on.

agreed...but I like some of the old character with improved mechanicals, sometimes those "improvements" don't really fit once its all said and done... That's why I need two land cruisers!

A bit?

KISS (keep it simple stupid) a bit?? How about a lot. My .02 :grinpimp:

That is a great thing about the 60 series. You can make whatever you want of it.

By removing all the extemporaneous BS from the exterior as well as totally gutting the carpet AND headliner, I have created the perfect wet dog, firewood hauler.
Going fishing?
Throw the canoes or kayaks either on top, or tuck them in the back kand go!

Spill the cooler.......no biggie.
Muddy kids and dogs.......who cares.

This is a FUN vehicle to own, drive and hit the DQ in after a long, lazy day on the river.

KISS rules, cappucino holders drool.....
