After reviewing the SOR website, Carb Identifier, I believe it is a 1971 carburetor that is missing a few pieces of linkage on the rear.

Thanks Jim, I had reached the same conclusion and am now on the bubble about a rebuilt from the USA or one of these, presumably Chinese, Aisan copies that Marshall is selling. Any opinion?

Changing from an F 1bbl to a 2F 2bbl is a big swap, reguiring new throttle linkage, fuel feed & return lines, air cleaner, manifold insulator, etc.

Maybe just get a good 1bbl carb?

Or consider going from the cable actuated 1bbl to a cable actuated 1970-1972 2bbl. The air cleaner just needs a 2bbl lid, the throttle linkage is easy (cable), and there is only a single fuel line.

Thanks Jim. I have this intake manifold I bought on Ebay and had sandblasted and ceramic coated. Clean as a whistle inside. I will presume I would be blocking off a number of ports on the manifold and the tube on the insulator is for PCV? Haven't heard back from Sealed Power on the availability of the pistons they list. They also list most of the parts for a rebuild, with the curious exception of valve springs.

Jim,
I have the exact same 21100-61090 High Altitude Spec carb on my 77' FJ40. It is desmoged, and I am uncertain as to what ports can be capped and which need to hooked up. Being that the rig is located in GA, can the HAC port near the airhorn be capped, as shown in the photo below?

Would you recommend a specific port in which to hook the distributor vacuum line too? Maybe port #5, #13, or something else?

If a desmogged port is not hooked up, should it be capped? i.e.: both ports on the blue BVSV, the unused Port #5 or #13, the unused port on the exhaust manifold (fuel filter?), and the HAC port?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar carb to this (DATE STAMP 6J22). I'm going from desmogged with Weber/Headers back to stock in order to try to pass CA emissions testing. My question is, what does that electrical connector hook up to? Is there a specific wire coming out of somewhere that I need to look for? Also, what does that control. Looks like a solenoid of some kind?

Thanks

That wire connection is a switched 12V, like lenny mentions above, and is connected to a wire off the harness on the drivers side fender. Mine is in the same loom as the red brake sensor wire, and I added the extra covering. That wire will connect to the fuel solenoid that is on your Aisan carb, and controls the flow of fuel.

Is the 6J22 Aisan carb original to your rig, or is it one you just picked up? Do you have all the parts to re-smog your rig?

You can see the old wire loom that goes behind my carb fan.

Thanks guys! Will have to get the meter out and find the switched power wire.

GA, yes, I pieced it all together. After much searching, a lot of luck, and help from fellow mudders, I have everything installed and almost ready for smog. Not sure if the carb is original or not, but the previous owner did pass smog with this same carb in the early 2000's before he decided to junk a lot of the smog equipment.

I have an AISAN carburetor on my fj40 with an ID stamped on it: "13 5 14" can anyone decode this for me, it doesn't seem to fit the above.

Before I order a rebuild kit for the carb on my 72 FJ40 looking to see that I have identified it correctly. After reading this thread looks like my carb was built March 14th 1972. The build on my FJ is May 72. My assumption is this is the stock carb for this 1F motor. I am looking to order the rebuild kit from Cruiser Outfitters. Does anyone know if the kit includes the necessary parts to rebuild the accelerator pump? It does not appear to be working. PO told me that he had to pour some gas in the carb to get it started each time. If I operate the linkage I do not see any gas being squirted into the carb. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Kester kit from CO will come with a new accel pump plunger and the small steel bb. Make sure you don't lose them small spring that holds the bb in place. It will also have the plastic/rubber dust boot.

You probably know this, but when you re-assemble don't over tighten stuff. Especially the the fuel inlet nipple. The female threads at my fuel inlet got bunged up by someone. Not good.

Yes, that is the original 1972 carb.

The keyster kits usually come with a rubber AP plunger, which does not seem to play well with RFG. Either re-use the OEM leather plunger (after cleaning & soaking in motor oil) or get a plunger out of another kit. IIRC, the plunger by itself is NLA from Toyota.
Combining the Keyster kit (main jets, slow jets, power valve, power jet, idle needle, aluminum crush washers...) with a cheapo parts store kit (gaskets, AP plunger...) gets the bestest of everything.
