so many choices...

im in southern calif.

mainly highway,,,,sometimes dirt, sand, mud.

have bfg at now. 285 's
just want a change..

want a good highway/ offroad combo.
not too loud on highway.
good looking..

i dont care about tread longevity.

nitto? terra grapplers?
toyo open country mud/t ?
pro comp m/t?
bfg mud ?
cepek?

too many choices?

thanks

I recently installed the Bridgestone Dueler Revo (285/75/16) and like them. I was told that these need to be rotated every 3K or they would wear uneven. Free rotation at Firestone and the same price as TireRack.

I run a 265/75/16 BFG Rugged Trail T/A, they work great for me, as I use my 80 as a DD. They are not loud at all and I maintain a good MPG of around 16-19 on the highway and average 15 with city driving in the mix. They off good traction in the snow and in mild offroad situation. And tread ware is great. I have had them for over 30K and they still have plenty of life left in them.

Just my thoughts...good luck with the search.

x2. So far very nice but a little noisier than my BFG KOs were.

I have been running 285 Nitto TG's for about 3 months now and they have been great. Minimal road noise and the ride is very smooth....much better than my previous BFG A/T's (3-ply sidewall). They balanced with minimal weight and needless to say I am impressed.

You probably won't be doing too much snow driving in So Cal, but I spent a week driving around Spokane, WA, which received 61 inches of snow in December and the tires performed extremely well.

Michelin LTX?

:)

X2 great tire, i also liked the dueler and dunlop radial rover A/T,no problems out of any of those.I always seem to go back to Michelin.Had some goodyear wranglers a few years ago, worst tires i have ever owned.

Bridgestone Dueler Revo (285/75/16). I have run these for about 5k miles and have had great results.

super swamper ltb's :flipoff2:
but really
i have the trxus mt's and they are an awesome ride on the highway

I have been running Toyo Open Country A/T 265/75-16 for a year and a half. Very nice on hwy ride, very quiet. Have been wearing very evenly, and great tread life (dammit, I want the 285 M/T, but only when these wear out...) Pretty good off road, but I haven't pushed it super hard either.

Great tire for a street rig that gets off road once in a while.

What about the Goodyear Silent Armor? No personal experience, but I have been looking at them.

I just recently bought a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers in the 285/75 size to replace my well-worn BFG A/T KOs (same size). I am very impressed with them so far. While we didn't get the same amount of snow as Spokane, I drove across the passes a few times in very bad snowy conditions and got lots of confidence from these tires. I haven't had a chance to take them off road but their on-road performance has been strong. Much quieter than the BFGs I had before.

I hear they don't last as long as the BFGs though... :frown:

After exhaustive research, and a set of BFG KO's, my DD now wears Firestone Destination A/T 285's. They have 16K on them now, and have always been quiet on hwy, (90% of my driving) yet will pull me up my "driveway" (2 miles of dirt road with 13% grades and switchbacks) in 6" of new snow. Cost $150/ea. at Discount Tire. I like 'em.

The Silent Armor is an awesome tire. Very quiet and awesome grip. There have been gripes by people in smaller (read: not full size) trucks about these tires, but having run them on multiple 2.5 ton + trucks, they are awesome. My only concern given the intended use is that for mud this tire has many fairly small tread blocks and lots of them, which will pack up with mud pretty darn well. Otherwise this would be a killer choice and looks great! If they made this tire in a 255/85, it would be my first choice when I am up for tires.

If I were angling to good highway use in an area with little snowfall and wear were not of concern, I'd be running TerraGrapplers as they do look super aggresive.

revos, toyo AT, or Nitto AT if you are tired of the BFG AT's. We have the Toyo AT's on the wifes 4runner and they are great. I always go by the rule of thumb that you get what you narrow down your search to 2 or 3 and then buy what you can get the best deal on. (Dont forget craigslist, ebay etc.)

Hello, Newb here! Will 285/75/16s rub at all when turning? What about 265/75/16s?

Is there any modifications needed to run these bigger tires?

What about speedo/odo accuracy?

I have searched the threads, but couldnt find any info about modifications needed, but none-the-less I apologize in advance if this is a repost!

Sorry for all the questions, Im trying to learn quickly; i cant wait to get this new rig out of the concrete jungle!

BTW, I am looking at BFG Rugged Trail TAs. Sams club has 265/75/16s for $89!

BFG KM2's. The best on road, off-road tire out there in my opinion. Not too loud, they perform well off-road, and they look killer.
