Did a couple things this morning. Never been thrilled with my front suspension, so I started with the easy thing. They weren't as ****ed as I thought they'd be but, may as well.

After a few years the front suspension sagged enough that my bump stops were too tall. I had these old fj40 ones in there, never liked it but it's what I had. Back to the parts bin...

So now, I put the bj74 ones back in, with a little adapter plate to move them forward. I really need to get my self a right angle drill. Could skip the adapter if I could get a drill in there to bang a new hole in.
They're actually too low now , but I figure I'll make some landing pads for them on the ubolt plates.

You can see where the old ones were landing...made the mall speed bumps a bit fierce.🤣

Debated getting some different bumps but I don't really want to spend a bunch of money sorting this because a 12ht is probably heavier than a 3b and s***s all gonna change again..

Gotta plan ahead 😜

Have you looked at those cabinet installer drills? They're not big but for a lot of things they're enough.

I also have one of these for my impact gun, its probably one of the most useful tools I own. Almost everyone who's helped me for a day has bought one after...

I had to guess at a lot of Swedish to get to that 🤣

That does look handy, but I was thinking something a little bigger.

I have an old 50s metal cased 1/2" drill that I usually use for drilling up through a frame.

I put a trolley jack under it till the truck lifts a bit, pull the trigger and hang on for dear life...:hillbilly:

Ya bigger would be nice too, but those ones are pretty handy

SumoSprings make great bumpstops. Absorb up to 1500 lbs so the 12HT sort of bounces thru cross ditches,
doesn't pound into them and knock teeth fillings out.
Pic is on full droop, they sit about 1" from spring when settled

Cool, I was trying to remember what those were called. Was thinking about going somewhere in that direction. Another reason I didn't want to drill more holes in the frame.

I've been dealing with a bit of a lean up front since I put this truck together. Flipped leaves across, got worse, flipped back added a leaf, still there. blah blah.

If/when I do this engine swap, I think I'm going to have to cheat the lump over to the right a bit to get the turbo away from the steering shaft, so I'm sure I'll be reworking the whole damn suspension.

Step one on that front is finding another DD I can stomach. 🤢🤮

No panic, I just suspect the new hospital will be more of a mon-fri thing instead of 4 and 4. Which is good and bad. Bad being more commutes, and I'm already pretty tired of driving the 60.

Was just reading up on those springs. Were yours for a Tacoma rear?

They don't make it super easy to just get dimensions, but it seems like most of the kits use a 3" round spring that's 4" tall.

That being the case, I'd aim for the one with the least amount of hardware because it just seems to jack up the price.

They do builder kits that use a 4" x 5" tall spring but I don't see them for sale anywhere.

Pretty sure this is same as mine. Just a simple steel plate the u-bolts capture.
The spring itself has a threaded eye that threads onto stud on bracket. Simple.
Blue is softer, Black is harder

Yeah I thought that was probably it. The ones without the steel plates are a fair bit cheaper, it wouldn't really work for me anyways.

For me they're probably not really what I need, they'd work, but would actually be better in the rear for carrying loads.

I'll have to do some measuring and see how much up travel I want. Before I only had maybe an inch or so before the bumps hit, so it definitely was a bit harsh. If I up that to 2 or 3 inches, they'll probably never come into play.

How long are your front shackles? Factory short?
Shackles aren't the issue, they're the right length for the springs. There's few things I dislike more on a cruiser than extended shackles, so that ain't gonna happen  . I hate the rear shackles on this truck, but they're a necessary evil for the chevy springs.

This is just a bit of spring sag after the truck was together for a while that made my borderline bumps actually too tall. Think I had room for 2" of up travel before, but then the meat plow and the winch started pushing down against the sky.

I'll see how the old 60 rear Emu's react to a bit of compression without bouncing off the bumps. Should ride better but if they continue to sag, some of those quasi air bag things might be an easy solution.

I forgot the plow out front. What would that weigh roughly? If it's more than a winch then that will wear
down the front end springs faster. Might have to look at adding a leaf or two.

That's what I mean about waiting until the dust settles from any engine swapping I might do in the next couple years. It took 5 years for them to sag an inch, I've been watching it and not much has changed in a while.

Most of that sagging was probably right away, I was just a lazy canute and didn't do anything about it till now

I doubt the bar weighs more than 2 batteries that normally sit right at the front of the truck, and I've moved those out of the engine bay so I think it's a wash. They're Emu 60 rears, mediums I suspect but they definitely have a couple extra leaves in there.

I'll see how it goes. If it starts creeping down again I'll get more serious about it.
