So close....this was almost the world's easiest install. Turns out the stud is the same metric size and pitch as the threaded holes in the bottom of the frame.

Buuuut, I'll need to make a landing pad if I decide to install up front.

So, I'll see how they rlook out back before I bust out any spark makers (and the hose 😬)


Too damn hot for getting deep into anything today. Might just glue some sticks together and see if it becomes a guitar.

Well, I went to test fit and 10 minutes later they were installed. Guess I can't complain too loudly.

I'll figure out a plan B for the front.

Me saying they were only half ton springs is the only reason she hasn't filled it to the tits with horsehit. 🤣🤣
 
Seaweed is the true killer of frames. Good thing I sold that hilux just in time.
 
Went for a long ride in it yesterday, wasn't thrilled with it. The blue things were just a bit too close out back and were making it bouncy.

To move them further away would be a lot of work, and if I'm going to do a lot of work it'll be to fit proper airbags. Which I kinda want to do anyway.

So. Back to the front.

Think I have them just about right. Couple inches away, and even if they contact they should be squishier with all the weight.

No, that is not a hockey puck underneath 🤣

Dunno if I'll leave the landing pad there. I'll think about that another day. It 🍻 time.

Suppose I should mention that pic is with that side jacked up as far as I could go before headache rack touched the garage door.

I'd probably have to do a proper Dukes of Hazzard to get that to actually touch 😂

I'll test it on a speed bump at a high rate of knots when the rain stops. Hopefully that's a week from now.😬

I was going to post a link to the ones I bought where the price was 240, which was a number I could live with, but I see they've jumped up to 295 now. That's getting up there.

Timbren make something similar too, also not cheap. Keep finding them when I search airbags.
 
I got mine on advice from a King of the Hammers driver. He has them on all 4 corners of his rig. If they survive that,
and make a noticeable improvement to the ride, then it was logical to me. I'd already committed to the BOSS triple
bulb airbags. Available from a guy in Chilliwack, but also from Mud guy in Pismo. They are gold off road, keep the
thing stable especially when I'm slow in ditches and big rocks.
 
How are you guys testing these to make sure it’s full compression stops more up travel before your shocks bottom out?

Yeah those factory hard rubber stops do rattle your fillings out but they are supposed to be set to a height to stop up travel right before your shocks bottom out so you don’t end up with damage like this.

My shocks won't bottom out, they're intentionally a bit short. Basically these things are something like 1500lbs at half compression (each) and because it gradually increases it slows the impact down before it gets there.

So the kind of impact needed to bottom things out would be pretty brutal. Like drop from a helicopter brutal 🤣

probably bend an axle or something first.
 
Put a zip tie on each shock at the bottom of the shiny bit, drive around for a week and see how high it is...

That's how I found I needed higher shock towers...
I have pretty tall shock towers, I had to build some because between the steering box and fender support I didn't have a lot or room.

These shocks are just ones I already had that were almost new. Stock 40 rears I think.

One of these days I'll pick up some longer ones, but it's hard to justify when these were free and almost new. I've never been able to tell the difference between fancy expensive shocks and regular Monroe's.

One day when I have nothing else to spend a couple hundred bucks on.

I've heard those days exist...

Cross ditches, deactivated or washed out roads Is where I discover my suspension problems.

I don’t need more junk around but a flex ramp or forklift would be very convenient after installing new suspension or tires to check maximum/minimum up travel and drop, fender clearance for issues.

I suspect a 6000 pound bouncing truck could easily top 1500 pounds on a single bump stop with a tucked tire.

Sure, but hit a factory bump stop hard enough it's going to squish too, or split. It's just rubber.

If you're hitting a factory bump that hard on a cruiser you're gonna be walking home at some point.
 
My trucks 6150 pounds and more with three passengers going through a washout on an angle I will have one bump stops hard on each axle.

That weight alone all on only two tires the bumps would be more than 1500 pounds resting each of the two stops.

in certain specific situations potentially most of the weight of the truck could be on just one to two tires and the spring. That much weight completely depresses the spring and a large portion of the sprung weight will land on the bump stop.
