how did you confirm this? the engine has the earlier series engine timing gear so isn't it more likely to be a very early "series 1" 1hz?
The early timing cover components go through the end of 1999.

Spring has arrived. The truck got me through the winter. It's not really designed for that, that's for sure. I had to put a tarp over the cowl every night so snow wouldn't get sucked into the fan and fog up the windshield and then freeze. 
The KM2s were really crappy snow tires. I mounted a set of 235/85 Nokian Hakkapeliitta LTs on my Toyota split rims. Truly excellent snow tires.
I found a break in the paint on the left rear, no idea how that happened. Looks to be down to primer.
There are hundreds of these little rust spots. I think it's just rail dust embedded in the paint. This is iron mining country, that stuff is everywhere.

Is there a dent associated with the large paint chip or is it simply a matter of the paint not adhering? (Can't really tell from the photo)
Hopefully it will be an isolated event.

This is factory paint for the middle east market. Proffitt's originally told me they thought the paint was really soft, nothing like the paint they put on US market vehicles, and recommended that we overspray it, then they changed their minds and said we should just touch up the shipping damage, so that's what I went with.
I'm not too impressed with this paint. I will clay bar the whole thing and then apply an acrylic polish, probably Zaino, hoping that will protect it better. Not sure how to fix the failed spot yet, probably lightly hand sand or spot blast and respray...

the middle east doesn't see the weather us lucky buggers do so a soft paint is fine for their climate.
as you know the protection is just a thin layer so a darn good wax each spring and especially before the snow flies would do wonders ...

Glad to hear the issue is on the surface and not ""bleeding" up from underneath.
