Yes, I have the 1HZ timing belt in stock. 13568-19195

I do not have the tensioner or the ilder pulley in stock. Though the idler is probably ok and the tensioner at this mileage is probably ok too.

I will inspect them but don't expect to find anything bad. I may as well replace the belt though. Thanks.

I have a 1990 1HZ manual and just read through it, as well as that writeup. Pretty straightforward.

The only thing I'll have to figure out on my own is removing the hydraulic tensioner. :meh:

Just like the 2UZ tensioner. You will have to compress it. Shouldn't be that big a deal.

Jumping in here rather late, read through the last three pages.

Did it continue to bubble when at operating temp under load?

Like Wayne said sounds like rust in the water.....and this engine is probably the friendliest of engines to work on, so simple...

Anyways, sounds like a great time to do water pump timing belt..

No bubbles but I haven't run it to operating temp because the water pump is making such a horrible noise. Rad full. Water pump has failed. Nothing else wrong that I can find.

Got it mostly apart. I need to buy a new puller to get the camshaft pulley off.

Turns out my engine, which I was led to believe came with my 2004 mine truck chassis, has a spring tensioner on the timing belt idler pulley and a 94 tooth timing belt, which means it's a '90-'99 engine. Also the timing belt is a Sun part, not Toyota, so it's not the original belt. The shop will be getting a phone call on Monday. I need to know wtf my engine is so I can maintain it properly. I can't even buy parts if I don't know what year my engine is. It would be nice to know how many miles are on it too, since it is now turbocharged....

Sorry if this a stupid question but I am not overly familiar with "mine trucks." Are "mine trucks" actual operating vehicles or are they static engines used to operate other equipment?
Thanks....

Editing for Wayne.

I will be looking for a block number on my engine tomorrow.

FWIW has anyone considered the small amount of rust found could well have been the pump's bearing assembly having finally let go spitting crap back out past the bearing's seal? Water can eventually creep past the seals on just about any old/worn water pump bearing assembly and start forming light rust. For that matter, when the engine's running it is pulverizing the rust in the bearing assembly as well as the bearings. A simple view would be a kids skateboard wheel bearing when the kid's always leaving it outside.

That would explain the loose assembly as well as the sudden introduction of the rust colored water. Bearing starts to freeze up with all this pulverized bearing/rust/crap inside it and spins the seal enough to wear it's edges, more water gets in, seal pops loose, water flushes through the entire bearing, pressure washing the bearing out, voila, rust colored coolant and a loose/bad pump assembly.

Just my experience from the world of 20R's.

Both, where I come from. A landcruiser declared a "mine vehicle" is almost meaningless. It may have driven by the superintendant or it may have been used 2klms underground in a half a metre of saline water its whole life.
Probably the vast majority are used by welders, diesel fitters and mechanics and for ferrying men to the mine face.
My 75 series was sold new by Goldfields Toyota in Kalgoorlie and seems to have been some kind of mine maintenance vehicle from 95-99. Apart from a repair job to the front RH fender its better than most for its age.

As a general rule do the mines keep records on the maintenance they perform on the vehicles?

Yes,they form a big cost of mining operations as well as records are needed for health and safety audits to show their safety features have been checked.
My brother is an underground supervisor and there is no pity for those caught mistreating landcruisers or any other vehicle
The mines were fairly pissed off with Toyota fitting the R151f gearbox to the HZJ79 because it caused them so much down time and they are not happy with V8 models either for being over powered and expensive.
Many of them are trialing cheap chinese 4wds that they can get 3 for the price of one cruiser
.
You might enjoy this little Jeremy Clarkson video about mine landcruisers:D

Thats not unusual. The 2004 engine probably blew up and they had a spare early 1HZ sitting around.
Or they swapped the timing gear over, all in a days work for a mine mechanic.

I have a 75 series t/case in my shed,it is a Frankenstein of brand new and totally fawked parts all thrown together for 1 week until the engine blew up.
The mines will do anything to ensure there is a landcruiser ready for the next shift.
After the Japanese Tsunami, the mining companies bought up every single part they thought they would need in case of shortages.

There is pebbly paint over the block number. Makes it hard to read.

I THINK it's 0057620. The last number could also be an 8.

Does anyone know where to look that up? I'll ask beno.

I've been wondering about that possibility.

The water pump's either not factory or at least has been off, it was on with just RTV, no gasket.
