How was your 1st gear after your swap?
Are asking about before the engine swap or the 3rd member swap?

When it became a diesel with 4.11 I never needed first gear. After the 3.73 swap I have to use it or else it would smoke too much

After the 3.73 swap. The 3.73 gears drop the ratio the same as the TC gears. You do have the advantage with the 37" tires. It's definitely a learning curve to drive it now. I kept shifting to soon.

Problem with regearing axles is you loose some of your low range. I didn't want to give that up.
you're right. thank God the engine has enough torque, it would have really sucked if it was the 3fe. at 70mph my engine is turning about 1800 rpm. that's great until you hit an incline.

I did 150 miles today. Gears didn't seem any louder than before. The only noise I have is my high/low shifter kinda rattles around. It did this before and usually stopped it by putting a folded up koozie between the shifters. I want to find a better solution for this. If the windows are up it gets annoying when I have to reposition the koozie all the time.
I found myself starting in 1st gear today so I now have 5 gears again. I also unsealed the air box when I got home because it seemed like the truck was a bit slower to build boost. So maybe the snorkel doesn't supply enough air.

If my numbers and formulas are correct this shows my final drive ratios compared to pre AND post drivetrain swap as well as the new gears.

I put the GoPro on the rear pandhard so I can see how much smoke I am blowing. It's so hard to tell trying to use the side mirror.

Didn't seem like too much to me, but it looks like that white Tahoe would disagree. Lol

He did seem to move out of the way didn't he.

Hahah!! Love it..

I can sure hear that distinct split case whine in that video. I like it though. Brings back memory's of riding in my dads 60 as a kid.

Yeah It's a whole different sound underneath.

It looks like it only smokes at shift points. Not to long though. Or was that with every hit of the throttle. Were you running it hard or just normal driving? If normal than if say tighten the star just a bit. I could live with that.

I was pushing it but more than normal and it only smoked when shifting to 4th and 5th.

How much of that whine do you hear in the cab?

The nature of go pros and the way they sit in their cases, they tend to record a lot of the noise being transmitted through whatever they are attached to. Noises you rarely hear with your ear. I am often attaching them to my mtn bike and you wouldn't believe how noisy the chain and gears sound once you watch the video.

Did some numbers input on an online gear ratio site. If I enter in the drivetrain I have it shows my RPMs at 70 should be around 1900. I'm wondering if my Dakota Digital is not calibrated correctly. Here's the site I used.
