Dood.....
You got that right. It was all going good until I drove it out of @bottombracket shop. I’m going to drive the truck to the rebuilder and see what he says. I was going to give him the NV4500 I took out to rebuild with another HF2A mating shaft but not if the last one has an internal issue.

I was able to reuse a stock rear driveshaft I had however it needs some love because it was dry as a bone. Taking it to a professional to get proper length for long term use. The front shaft I have is a bit short. When the suspension is hanging the splines show so off to get rebuilt with the front.

Not too bad for a weekend’s work. I’m just hoping the first gear fix is something simple that doesn’t require dropping it again…

I am glad we got to wrench, see a few friends (appropriately distanced), and have a couple of beers.

Drove the truck up to the trans shop yesterday to have the rebuilder take a peak. It was a loud drive with no top cover on. We took off tower and he was able to get it in 1st using two pry bars but it popped back out immediately under load. He had three other cars up on lifts so I told him I would remove it and bring it back to him. With nothing connected to the trans other than a rear driveshaft it's an easy removal and hoping he can fix it this week getting it back to me on Saturday. In the mean time I will use my other NV4500 to mock up a bracket for it to hold the stock 80 series transfer case shifter. I also need to figure out where my center diff wiring is hiding. I have a feeling I removed it so I may need to make a harness.

I stopped by the rebuilders shop this morning. He confirmed that he put the 1st gear collar on wrong so he will be fixing the issue in the next few days.

I also pulled a CDL harness to use and some visors from a 100 series at the pick n pull. The speedo gear seems to be a better design and dropped right into the 80 series HF2A. Only real difference was the connector to the CDL motor so I'll have to add a different connector. Gives me something to do over the weekend while the trans is fixed.

Today I attempted to get the CDL working. I got all my wiring up to par as best I could. I previously had to do some mods to get my lockers to work without the CDL since I had a split case. Pin 7 mod and lockers anytime mods have been done.
I am able to lock the CDL but I am unable to unlock it. Only way to unlock it is to apply positive to pin 3 abs neg to pin 2 at the motor. Confirmed this with two different motors and three different CDL relay boxes. I’m sure I’m missing something but I am out of ideas. Anyone have any thoughts?
Of course I’m doing this with the TC on the ground at the moment.

Took a break from electrical to figure out how to mount the TC shifter. Hope it works when I get the trans back and installed. I’m sure there will be some sheet metal cutting for final fitment.

Well after about 10 hours of fiddling with the wiring on the CDL I finally figured it out. It’s was a two wired in my harness that I had backwards. I realized it as I was making a test harness to bench test the system outside the truck. I was digging into all kinds of rabbit holes and making unnecessary messes before I found it.
Glad I fingered it out. Now I can focus on gearing up for trans install this week.

I got the NV4500 back in with the HF2A. I will need a front driveshaft but other than that everything seems good.
At the moment I’m working on a new shifter console and replacing the accessory bracket on the Cummins. This was the only piece of Diesel Adapters crap I had on my swap. The thermostat housing failed twice and would spew coolant at temps below freezing. The aluminum mating to cast was not a great design. Switching over to an all metal bracket, from Adventure Vehicles Northwest, that uses a cast waterneck from the early Cummins. Glad to rid the truck of that junk.

New accessory bracket, Adventure Vehicles Northwest, installed. I like the way its separate from the upper and lower water necks. I found it much easier to remove the whole bracket to install alternator. I don't have enough room to insert the long bolt from the front.
Also decided to reseal the timing cover since I had no coolant and pulling the rad was easy.

I’m glad I just checked this thread, gonna have to fabricate the H-N-L shifter on mine shortly, and also figure out all the wiring connections. Had a part time case in there and just got my NV4500 rebuild and bolted back in. Was working on new crossmember last night.

Nice. I figured you were ahead of me.

You figured wrong... haha.

Machinist finally got some progress on the milling for high steer arms today, its taking him forever it seems though.

I just installed that Adventure Vehicles bracket on my 4bt. Seems like its gonna work out well. Had to change my fan pulley to a second gen and install a vertical oil filter. My lower water inlet leaked the first go round and i had to take it off and block sand it. Had a little weld booger that was keeping it from lying absolutely flat with the block. No big deal. At least you can take it off without removing the entire bracket....nice design.

I had a charging issue for awhile. I swapped voltage regulators but that didn’t solve it so I had to replace the alternator. The new accessory bracket was super easy to pull out with the alternator attached. I think I had it swapped in a lazy 45 minutes. Now back to charging like normal.
I plan on taking the bunk one in to see if they can fix it and hop it up for more amps.

Also had some time to work a bit more on the shifter console. Going to paint it black tomorrow and knock down the edges of the plastic around the TC shifter.

How is the fan placement with the late model 6BT fan hub that you need to use with the NWAV high mount bracket? Is the fan centered in the radiator?
