I got word today that my vacation request has been approved. So I'll see everyone come Friday at noon. I'll watch this thread as I'll need a meeting spot that my GPS can find.

Great news Rick!! I will shoot you a PM shortly with the meeting coordinates; but as Jason said try to be there by around 11ish because we will be rolling out for the trail head at roughly noon. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM as I am going to be the one leading up the Camping group.... Looking forward to meeting you and your son

Hey guys,

I'm finally going to get up there for a run! I'm planning on camping. Will we have a specific site? Also, any schedule of events? Planning on arriving Friday afternoon. Bringing my 72 FJ55! Can't wait!

Marshall, thanks for all of your help with my cruiser, I'm looking forward to hanging with you.

Any details on the weekend would be helpful!

OOPS, Marshall - just saw your earlier post to me! Forgot I posted before. I'll standby for more info.

I have the house thursday thru Sun. Assuming I'm coming up early or someone else is it will be open to crash thursday night. Might make it a little easier for those who are coming from far away to know you have a place Thursday night.

JP will send out GPS and a map to all who are coming above giving the location of the meeting spot sometime in the next week.

Rick you might want to get up with JP and me and let's work on a safty plan of action and get that ball rolling. David and I would like to have all our I's dotted and T's crossed for this event.

Heather, Steve and Karl any way we might be able to setup a meeting with the forestry service, if they are local, that friday? Just a meet and greet and get to know them.

FYI, if someone hasn't said it, cell reception is sketchy in cullowhee. I didn't have a signal at the cabin, but did at the light where you turn to go to it.

Good Point John!! I have always had reception at the park where we meet to hit the trails so hopefully we won't have a problem with that; but the guys heading to the cabin might want to take this into consideration.

You can get reception if you stand on top of the skate ramp.

Marshall & JP, I'll need a roster that I can compare with our last trip, so we may only have to pester a few folks that didn't go last time. I think we should establish the rig order on the trails before we hit them too. It will make for less fuss at the trail head.

TO ALL ATTENDEES:
FRS/GPRS/CB radios are becoming more of a necessary item, than a luxury. Please have one in your rig, so that you can hear what the leader is saying about trail conditions or options (like lunch stops) for the group. Tail gunners will relay status info back to the leaders such as everyone has passed thru a certain obstacle, resume speed.

Sounds good. My only question is what are we actually doing about camping/staying at the cabin. Sorry, but I'm confused about this. Is everyone staying at the cabin EVERY night or is there still a group that will be camping at the balds?? I realize that we have the cabin for the entire time, but what's the plan???

Thanks, and 10-4 on the Radios!

there will be a camping group on the trail the whole time, not to speak for someone else in official coordinators position, but i can garuntee at least one :D

Agreed radios/cb's are a must to know whats goin on. as to the trail order; has it caused a fuss? usually simply determined by how we leave the parking lot. as long as no stinkin diesels are with us, i think its crucial for each truck know whos in front and whos behind them and speak up if they are not accounted for.

Not a major fuss, but thought it would make sense to leave in the order we intend to, intentionally this time.:)

If my workload is overwhelming that week, then I won't be on the trails friday and will just go to the cabin Friday night, but I intend to camp Saturday on the bald.

As Jason has pointed out. Most will camp.

This is an expedition style run. Start at point A, camp, then go to point B and camp.

Some people cannot be in Cullowhee at 12 on Friday. For those that cannot I will lead a group up late that afternoon. It will be on gravel. Those that want to stay and camp can and those that want to follow me back to the cabin can. Sat will be a full day on the trails. Those who are at the cabin can either get up early and make it to the camp and meet up with the campers and wheel.

I'll be hanging out around the cabin Sat and then drive up the other gravel road to the bald and meet up with the people on the trail. Have yet to decide on if I will camp that night or not. I got sick again this week so not looking good.

This trip is designed as a something for everyone. You can either camp of hit the cabin. For all we know it may rain the whole freeking weekend and most everyone will be at the cabin at night. WHo knows. If it is above 40 or 50 I'll probably camp Sat night on the bald. That place just doesn't get any better for car camping.

I'm sure JP will fill everyone in on exact details.

I think that's a great idea. I can help y'all come up with an agenda as well as a list of things to say...and not to say. I wish I could join you, but I've been told that it's not safe for me to be running around in the woods 8 months pregnant. Whatever....

:) Wanna set up a conference call or something?

Thanks for the info. everyone! I'll also be camping, most likely regardless of weather. I'll just ride down the mountain along w/ my tent if it gets blown off the mountain. Also, there's no way I can be there by 12 on Friday, so I'll be w/ the later group like last time. As of now, I've got one passenger.

Who knows? Maybe we'll even get lucky and it'll just up and snow!!

I will get out a thread with detials on the exact meeting places and schedule after sometime next week most likely after wednesday as I have 5 tests between monday and wednesday :crybaby: I will PM the new guys that will be joining this ride to get contact info and give them more indepth info.

but I have been up for 41 hours straight and counting now and I am going to bed

sorry for the delay fellas but I gotta get school taken care of first......... :meh:

No worries. Take your time; we've got plenty of it. And I've got plent of school to deal w/ rt. now too, so I feel your burden. Good luck JP

Put Stacie and I on the maybe list... Have to find out her work schedule for Feb.... Cabin most likely, and we would be more than willing to chip in.....

Well guess what fellas - I've got something to drive on the trails! Will have room for at least one person to ride along and maybe two if I don't bring my puppy (and don't worry - I'm not bringing the Jack).
