11:30 and the snow is done in Williamston.

JP said Cullowhee got 4-8 inches of snow. I have e-mailed him the list. Someone needs to step up to the plate and take charge if you want to go.

went to the bald today only about 3 inches and leaving fast.... very slick and muddy going up canay fork. we went back down moses ck..

As far as I know, Bill and I are the only two really excited to go. I'd like to know if it's gonna happen this evening so I can begin to prepare for this trip or my alternative plans. Unless there is someone else out there really wanting to go, then I'd say it's better to wait til next time. Cullowhee will get more snow on Sat., but how much ice will be down from the currently melting snow and whether or not it will really be worth it is debatable, especially since everything will just be wet and muddy tomorrow til more comes on Sat.

Looks like nothing worth chasing left by the w/e. We don't have to go in the cold to play mud at Whee.
Jeri couldn't come until Sat PM anyway so unless some more snow is coming Sat I'm thinking this ain't the trip we've been looking for.
OTOH Mon is MLK Day so Sun/Mon could make sense depending on what happens Sat snow-wise.

Looks like Cullowhee is going to get anothe 1-3 inches Sat. This is probably your best chance to go.
it looks like this time the upstate might actually end up with more snow than the mountains

It's alright. It'll happen another wkend. Bill and I are the only ones interested it seams and today would just be a mud runs. Probly gonna get real icy today too which isn't always as driveable or fun. No worries. Such is life.

I can't pull, my mom is moving this weekend and i'm down with the flu.

I know Pisgah got it today. Allie and I went backpacking and hiked in it today. Really beautiful up there. There'll always be a next time though.

I caved. What can I say; when I've got an itch, I gotta scratch it. Allie and I went today. Rode up to the upper bald by way of Moses Creek and then back down the way we went up at PPR and came out down Caney Fork. Ran into a fair amount of our Rover Friends up there. Several camped out on the Bald last night. I honestly think that a trail-maintenance trip to Cullowhee should be considered. I'll post more about this in a new thread.
Beautiful up there though, for sure. Trails were pretty clear and doable. Only a bit of bad ice in places and the dirt is freezing, but traction wasn't bad for the most part. Temps were in the teens while I was there. Looking forward to a bigger trip!

who wants to go back to the whee this weekend???? :grinpimp:

saw the weather report atop Mt. Leconte on the TN/NC line had 18" of new snow as of 10am this morning should end with over 2 feet  given this is at 6000' and primely located for an upslope snow fall event.

still I think the general area was supposed to get 2 to 4" of snow; any snow reports from you guys in the whee area???

I will be in the mountains this weekend but it will be to do wedding stuff

Allie reports that it snowed yesterday in Mars Hill and was supposed to continue all night. They've got 6" right now.

lucky her!!!!

yep that isn't to far away maybe 15 miles as the crow flies....... says 9* there at about 4500 feet that camera is located right where 276 crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway. I imagine it is nasty up on the balds at the whee right now

we missed the the good stuff by just a few days :frown:
