I already slowed down when I started riding with UC. Don't want you young punks to feel challenged, do something stupid(er).

I will have to argue that point "wild bill" :D

Wasn't it your heavy right foot that had children crying of terror last cullowhee trip? ;)

Fergot about that Lexus back there stalking us.
Didn't realize my ATRAC had somehow switched off.
Couldn't figure out why the tires were spinning.
I had my face set toward the top of that ledge. Tunnel vision.

BUT . . . maturity prevailed. I stopped and re-evaluated, re-configured the Bonnie, and crept on over. Just a matter of momentary regression, that's all.

Do not sign up for this trip unless you have a good running vehicle and good quality camping equipment. Temps could be as low as 15 degrees. If you don't have the essentials we will send you home.

Would someone PM me and let me know what the "essentials" are? I've got the camping gear--no problem. And, I've got the good running vehicle. However, that vehicle only has 285's. Everything else is stock. Are mods part of the essentials? (I know they certainly would help.)

Thanks.

Hey Boomslappy!

I'm sure someone with more knowledge and experience will reply, but I've done Cullowhee in my 100 with 285' A/Ts. I think Marshall's openning post was aimed at . . . well . . . certain vehicles . . . that tend to show up . . . lets just say . . . less than well equiped. Whew!

Your hundy probably came (like mine) out of the box incredibly capable of performing well in all conditions. My '98 came with rear and center diff locks, and the only mods I made were 285 ATs and taking the running boards off. Other mods made on trail :grinpimp:.

All I can say is welcome to the club, and the only limits (other than the safety and courtesy concerns Marshall has expressed) are those imposed by your own skill and the amount of "character" you are willing to inflict on what is a very expensive piece of equipment.

As far as additional equipment, I would suggest a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a really good tow strap (with sewn loops, NEVER metal hooks), a device for communications (cb, ham, frs, or cell), and plenty of food.

Thanks Turkeypen. Mine's a 2000, so no lockers. I'm thinking that will be next on the list (before a lift). Other than that, I'm good to go with all that stuff. I'll put my name in the plate.

I think what marshall was getting at was the fact that if this run comes to fruition.......... a snow run a Cullowhee will most likely be NASTY........ as in there will be no traction :D. We normally tout Cullowhee as our "stocker" friendly event that everyone can come on and have fun; but this event will not be so stocker friendly as I believe the difficulty of the trails will go way up with snow.

so I am sure your hundy is way more reliable than my 40  but if you come you just have to be ready for the possibilty of body damage :D

without a locker chains would be a good idea

wether or not you decide to bring the hundy you should come it will be a great trip, and we will have plenty of open seats

So, if I wuss out, I've still got a ride?

Sweet...

You have ATRAC in place of the lockers... Lockers would not be next on my list if I was you. Most of the FJC folks have ATRAC and rear lockers, but rarely use the rear locker.

Sliders would be next on my list followed by a lift... from there, just wait until you rip off one of the bumpers and replace as they go.:D

I'm hoping the timing of the snow works into my schedule... been since my days in AK since I camped in the snow.

ATRAC will take care of you, just being sure you are not afraid of body damage would be the biggest key up there with snow. That and just having stuff to stay warm and dry.

As far as mods on the 100 go over to the 100 section and talk with those guys. Tons of info and will help you save $ by not doing something thats not needed.

I've found lots of info on lockers vs. none. It's just so difficult to decide when you want all of it.

You do not need lockers w/ ATRAC...get the armor done first :)

email sent. I really hope this works out.

First big snow of the year.

SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS WILL BEGIN TO FALL ACROSS THE NORTH
CAROLINA MOUNTAINS EARLY TUESDAY...AND THEN INCREASE IN COVERAGE
AND INTENSITY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR
STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL TO REACH 3 TO 6 INCHES BY
WEDNESDAY...ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS AND ALONG NORTHWEST
FACING SLOPES. ADDITIONALLY...NORTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 35
MPH...WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH TUESDAY NIGHT...COULD
CREATE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING SNOW IN AFFECTED LOCATIONS. A FEW
LOCATIONS COULD SEE WIND CHILL VALUES BELOW ZERO AS WELL AROUND
DAYBREAK WEDNESDAY.

hehe....... its gonna snow and be cold as hell that is all :grinpimp:

I am leaving atlanta this morning with my tail between my legs and am headed straight for my folks place in Maggie valley, they are calling for 4 to 8 inches  and over a foot at the higher elevations

to bad this storm is in the middle of the week or it would be perfect for a snow run....... I am sure there will still be plenty on the ground come this weekend, just none in the air

I'll post up some pics when I get back of the cruiser in the snow!!!

heres the latest

National Weather Service Watch Warning Advisory Summary

I am VERY game in going out in Cullowhee this weekend!

Unless it can be done around the monthly meeting. As much as I would want to do a snow run I don't think there will be much snow by this weekend. From the forcast for Rich mountain it doesn't look like they got a whole lot.
